Quick Overview
Job Description
About the role
SIDE is looking for an experienced Audio Engineer to join our London Audio team.
You will be responsible for the smooth technical delivery of games dialogue recording sessions across a wide range of projects, from indie and mobile titles through to AAA console productions.
This is a hands-on studio engineering role requiring strong technical capability, excellent session management and the ability to work calmly and professionally with clients, directors and talent.
You will work across dialogue recording, ADR, Performance Capture and Facial Capture, helping ensure sessions run efficiently and that audio, assets and associated data are captured accurately, on time and to a consistently high standard.
The role suits an engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with speed, accuracy, organisation and sound judgement in a fast-moving studio environment.
What you'll be doing
- Engineer recording sessions at our London studios, ranging from wild dialogue recording through to full ADR sessions.
- Set up, engineer and run Performance Capture and Facial Capture sessions using technologies including MetaHuman, Head Mounted Camera systems and Reference Camera workflows.
- Ensure audio, performance and associated data are captured accurately and in line with the project brief.
- Prepare studio session assets, including audio and video reference files and dialogue scripts.
- Prepare ADR sessions for your own work and for other engineers.
- Manage studio sessions efficiently while maintaining a high level of technical accuracy and recording quality.
- Maintain organised and reliable session, file and asset workflows.
- Maintain studios and studio equipment where practicable.
- Contribute to the development of studio services, technical processes and workflows as part of an international team.
- Record location audio on set with Motion Capture partners where required.
- Work closely with clients, directors, talent and internal colleagues to support successful session and project delivery.
- Follow company Security, Confidentiality, Health & Safety, IT and HR procedures and support compliance with these requirements across the team.
- Ensure your work and professional conduct align with appropriate ethical standards and the values of the organisation.
What we're looking for
You will have 3+ years' professional experience as an engineer within a commercial post-production recording studio, ideally including dialogue and/or ADR recording.
You will also bring:
- Strong practical experience managing professional studio recording sessions.
- Strong working knowledge of Pro Tools, with the ability to operate confidently and efficiently in live recording environments.
- Experience using other DAWs. Experience with Reaper would be advantageous.
- Excellent understanding of audio, video and general studio technology.
- Experience working with dialogue, ADR, voice-over or another relevant professional recording environment.
- Strong technical accuracy and disciplined studio workflows.
- The ability to work quickly and effectively during high-volume or time-sensitive recording sessions.
- Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- The ability to work independently when required while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
- Confidence taking direction from senior colleagues and providing appropriate guidance to more junior team members.
- A proactive, dependable and collaborative approach to your work.
How you work
Technical capability is important, but how you operate in the studio matters just as much.
Our Audio Engineers work directly with clients, directors and talent, sometimes in demanding or high-pressure sessions. You will need to remain calm, composed and technically focused even when priorities change or different stakeholders have competing views.
You should be comfortable:
- Remaining calm and professional under pressure.
- Communicating confidently without bringing unnecessary ego into the room.
- Handling differing opinions diplomatically.
- Maintaining technical performance when sessions become demanding.
- Exercising good judgement when issues arise.
- Building credibility with both creative and technical stakeholders.
- Learning new tools, technologies and workflows quickly.
Your background
Relevant experience may come from a range of professional recording environments, including:
- Games dialogue recording
- ADR
- Voice-over
- Localisation and dubbing
- Post-production
- Broadcast
- Television or film dialogue recording
- Specialist recording studios
Previous games experience is valuable, but strong transferable experience in professional dialogue or voice recording is also relevant to the role.
