The Role

We are looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead the technical and engineering function across a high-profile Central London facilities management contract.

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of all engineering and building services. You will lead engineering teams, manage specialist contractors and supply-chain partners, and act as the senior technical point of contact for the client.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with excellent leadership, commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for all Hard FM, engineering and maintenance services across the contract.
• Lead, develop and performance-manage the engineering team, creating a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement.
• Ensure all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, BMS, life-safety and associated building services are maintained to a high standard.
• Take ownership of statutory compliance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance performance.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, British Standards, SFG20, H&S requirements and client-specific engineering standards.
• Monitor CAFM systems, engineering KPIs, PPM completion, reactive response times and compliance records.
• Manage specialist engineering contractors and ensure supply-chain performance meets contractual requirements.
• Develop and maintain engineering strategies, asset-management plans and lifecycle replacement programmes.
• Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, energy efficiency and operational performance.
• Oversee technical projects, lifecycle works, plant replacement and minor works where required.
• Support budget preparation, forecasting, cost control and commercial performance.
• Produce clear monthly engineering and compliance reports for senior management and the client.
• Lead technical audits, investigations, incident reviews and corrective-action plans.
• Build strong relationships with client stakeholders, consultants, contractors and internal FM teams.
• Provide technical leadership during mobilisation, projects, audits and operational change.

About You

You will be an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in Hard FM / Technical FM, ideally within a complex commercial, corporate or multi-site environment.

You should have:

• Proven experience at Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, Technical Services Manager or equivalent level.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services.
• Experience managing engineering teams and specialist contractors.
• Strong understanding of statutory compliance and planned maintenance.
• Experience working within a client-facing FM environment.
• Good commercial awareness, including budgets, procurement and contractor management.
• Strong understanding of CAFM systems, PPM and asset management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• A proactive approach to identifying operational and engineering improvements.
• Relevant engineering qualification such as HNC/HND, degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Relevant Health & Safety training/qualification would be advantageous.
