The Controls Engineer will also assist and advise manufacturing teams in troubleshooting and resolving production issues where electrical controls are mission-critical, including E-Beam/LFE systems, tension control systems, winders/rewinders, and mixing/weighing systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement plans to keep critical manufacturing equipment up to date with the latest technologies available from manufacturers and competitive sources.
  • Propose and implement continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to improve equipment uptime, MTBF, and overall reliability.
  • Develop and propose annual capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects.
  • Assist and coach manufacturing and maintenance supervisors and technicians in prioritizing daily maintenance schedules, PM/TPM activities, and troubleshooting.
  • Support and guide the spare parts management system coordinator.
  • Develop, document, and maintain preventive maintenance procedures, calibration procedures, and training materials, particularly during the commissioning of new or upgraded equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls and automation issues affecting critical manufacturing processes.
  • Serve as a liaison between IT and plant operations for manufacturing network issues and troubleshooting.

  • Provide on-call support for emergencies on a rotational basis.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional weekend work and after-hours support.
Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation, automation, and maintenance in a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience working with production and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing techniques and structured quality systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Siemens PLC programming, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Experience programming and tuning AC/DC and variable frequency drive (VFD) motor drives.
  • Knowledge of single-loop and multi-loop Siemens controllers and PLCs.
  • Ability to interpret and use ladder logic and P&ID diagrams for automation systems.
  • Experience with temperature, pressure, and level controllers; load cells; extruder motors; melt and liquid pumps; and tension winding/unwinding controllers.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and edit electrical, instrumentation, and automation documentation, including process loop drawings, P&IDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, installation details, logic diagrams, mechanical prints, and specification sheets.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a rotational on-call schedule for emergencies.
Preferred Technical Experience
  • Experience in extrusion or injection molding production.
  • Experience with web handling and transport systems, linear tension control systems, load cells, and general instrumentation calibration.
  • HMI software programming experience with WinCC, Wonderware, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Siemens PLCs is required; familiarity with AutomationDirect, Allen-Bradley (AB), and Mitsubishi PLCs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks and protocols, including PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience developing and documenting maintenance and calibration procedures.
  • Experience with industrial control systems and manufacturing process optimization.
Additional Requirements & Candidate Preferences
