Job description

QA Engineer

Location: Houston, TX (Remote, US; Houston-based candidates preferred) | Reports To: Director of Product | Contract-to-Hire

Overview

Our client is seeking a QA Engineer, early in their QA career, to help test its pharmacy management software: an end-to-end platform for compounding pharmacies covering e-prescribing, production and batching, labeling, inventory and billing. The platform is being rebuilt on a modern, API-ready SaaS foundation. You'll work day-to-day with a Senior QA Lead who is building the QA strategy and automation from the ground up, with a clear path from strong test execution toward independent, automation-driven ownership. This role starts as a contract-to-hire engagement with the intent to convert to full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, document and complete test execution for assigned features and releases on the sprint schedule
  • Run functional, regression and exploratory testing across core pharmacy workflows: e-prescribing, prescription processing, production and batching, labeling, inventory and billing
  • Test a .NET / WinForms application with DevExpress UI components and data-heavy grids, backed by PostgreSQL, including integrations, vendor-delivered sprint work and end-to-end scenarios (POS, IVR, QuickBooks and payment flows)
  • Test through a platform transition: the current product and the new version being built to replace it, including migration scenarios and connected peripherals such as scales and balances
  • Turn requirements and acceptance criteria into test cases and test data before and during development
  • Write clear, reproducible defect reports that engineers can act on the first time
  • Handle patient data the HIPAA way: compliant test data only, and no protected health information in defects, screenshots, logs or test artifacts
  • Pay attention to regulated-workflow details: audit logs, recordkeeping and the correct handling of prescription types (controlled, office use, OTC), including USP 795/797-related workflows
  • Learn the test automation framework and contribute automated UI and API tests with review and pairing from the Senior QA Lead; help keep automated suites healthy
  • Work in two-week sprints with daily stand-ups and keep work visible in Azure DevOps, with test cases linked to requirements
  • Use AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude) to speed up test design, test data and documentation

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of software quality assurance or testing experience, ideally on a SaaS or web-based product
  • Experience designing and executing test cases from requirements or acceptance criteria, and working defects through their full lifecycle
  • Experience working on an Agile team (Scrum, SAFe or similar) with sprint-based delivery
  • Basic exposure to test automation or scripting, and a clear desire to grow it into a core skill
  • Detail-oriented, coachable and a clear written communicator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure DevOps or Jira for test and defect management
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright, Selenium, Cypress or similar, or API testing tools
  • Experience in healthcare, pharmacy or another regulated industry
  • Exposure to workflow-heavy systems such as pharmacy platforms, EMR, ERP, billing or inventory systems
  • Experience testing integrations (payments, POS, third-party APIs)
  • Exposure to .NET / WinForms desktop applications, DevExpress components or PostgreSQL-backed systems
  • Use of AI-enabled tools to improve testing workflows

Pay rate: $35/hr. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position, remote in the US (Houston, TX preferred).
