job summary:

The Epic Applications Analyst II - Hospital Billing (Patient Financials) serves as a vital technical liaison between Information Technology and Revenue Cycle operational leadership across our enterprise health system. This role drives the build, configuration, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) modules-specifically focusing on patient-facing financial components, including pre-service price estimates, deductible and co-pay capture, self-pay billing rules, patient statements, and third-party vendor integrations.

responsibilities:

  • Patient Financial Application Build: Build, test, and maintain Epic HB workflows supporting patient liability, self-pay billing, billing cycles, and payment plans.
  • Patient Estimates & Price Transparency: Configure and optimize Epic's Patient Estimate functionality, ensuring accurate calculations for pre-service out-of-pocket expenses based on benefits, deductibles, co-pays, and fee schedules.
  • Point-of-Service & Collections Support: Design and support front-end financial workflows to capture patient co-pays and deductibles at scheduling, check-in, or point-of-service.
  • Patient Statement Management: Build and maintain patient statement logic, dunning cycles, balance-after-insurance rules, and electronic statement delivery.
  • Vendor Interface Management: Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot HL7 and file-based interfaces with third-party vendors, including payment gateways, statement printing services, financial counseling tools, and collection agencies.
  • Operational Alignment: Partner directly with Patient Financial Services (PFS), Patient Access, and clinical operations to translate business requirements into system build.
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Investigate system tickets, resolve workqueue errors, perform unit/integrated testing, and update system build to improve patient financial satisfaction and workflow efficiency.




qualifications:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare IT, Information Systems, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration (or equivalent years of relevant experience).


Work Experience: Minimum 2-4 years of experience supporting healthcare IT systems, specifically focused on Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications and hospital billing workflows.


Certification: Epic Resolute Hospital Billing (HB) certification or accreditation required; secondary certifications/accreditations (e.g., SBO, Claims, CPHIMS, CAHIMS) preferred.


Domain Knowledge: In-depth understanding of hospital revenue cycle operations, patient financial touchpoints, self-pay billing logic, and regulatory compliance surrounding healthcare price transparency.
