Summary

WaterEquity seeks a VP, Business Development, to support capital raising and investor relations. Reporting to the Chief Investor Relations Officer (CIRO), this role will initially focus on WaterEquity’s Financial Institutions investment strategy, including spearheading fundraising efforts for WaterEquity’s evergreen private debt strategy. As WaterEquity expands its fund portfolio, including into climate-resilient water and sanitation infrastructure, the role’s focus will broaden accordingly. The VP, Business Development, will work closely with the full IR team, which consists of the Chief Investor Relations Officer, the Chief Strategy Officer, the VP of Investor Relations, as well as the VP of Marketing.

 This role is an opportunity for an individual deeply committed to utilizing the capital markets as a solution to addressing global inequality, climate change, and the water crisis. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in capital raising or investor-facing work, and a strong desire to build the relationships and market knowledge needed to raise capital from foundations, family offices, HNWIs, DFIs, and institutional investors. Candidates must thrive in a dynamic start-up culture, excel at independent work and proactive communication, and be able to manage diverse projects simultaneously. The candidate should be comfortable working remotely, and with team members in diverse geographic locations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Expand and execute on fundraising efforts for WaterEquity's Financial Institutions investment strategy, a debt strategy that lends to financial institutions to scale their water and sanitation microlending. This role is responsible for raising investor capital into the strategy from a diverse set of investor types, including foundations, corporations, family offices, HNWIs, and Donor Advised Funds.
  • Work alongside the IR team to prepare organizational, fund, and investor-specific collateral such as pitch decks, teasers, key fund marketing materials, and due diligence materials.
  • Manage all stages of the sales cycle from targeting to closing, including investor inquiries and due diligence requests.
  • Assist with investor relations activities and help ensure a high standard of client service for investors and prospects.
  • Provide insight into investor behavior and key trends to influence WaterEquity’s business and product development strategies, including supporting internal and external conversations with strategic partners.
  • Represent WaterEquity at select industry conferences, such as GIIN, SOCAP, and UN Climate Week.
  • Collaborate with Water.org, WaterEquity's parent organization, to help raise awareness of the global water crisis and support capital raising opportunities for the organizations' co-founders, management, and revenue teams.
  • Collaborate with IR team to maintain investor and prospect records in Salesforce, ensuring accurate and timely tracking of relationship details.
  • Participate in organization-wide meetings and activities.

 Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, finance, international development, or related field.
  • 5 + years of relevant work experience in business development, fundraising, and/or investor relations.
  • Familiarity with alternative investment products, including emerging markets private debt and/or evergreen funds, is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and clearly communicate investment and impact strategies to a diverse set of investors.
  • An emerging network of investor or industry contacts, particularly those interested in impact investing, is a plus.
  • Solid proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Salesforce.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and project management skills with a proven ability to deliver against targets and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of management, staff, and clients.
  • Understanding of and passion for impact investing and/or international development.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time (domestically and internationally)

 Location

WaterEquity is seeking a candidate based on the East Coast, USA, to facilitate proximity to NE Coast-based prospects and investors. As WaterEquity is a remote organization, applicants must have a high degree of comfort using remote-working technology and a willingness to travel to accomplish company and individual performance goals.

 Compensation and Benefits

This position offers full-time benefits, including medical/dental insurance, life and disability insurance, a retirement program, and periodic review for merit and incentive pay based on organizational and personal achievement. Overall compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and structured to reflect a competitive package for a full-time team member at this level. Expected pay range is $120,000-$140,000. Travel required up to 20%.
