What the opportunity looks like:

The Technical Asset Planner – Distilling is responsible for planning, organising and coordinating engineering and maintenance work across Whyte & Mackay’s five distillery and 2 maturation sites.

The role ensures that maintenance activities, engineering tasks, statutory work, shutdown activity and contractor work are effectively scoped, risk assessed, permitted, scheduled and ready for safe execution.

A key part of the role is to control and manage the permit to work system, ensuring that all tasks have suitable risk assessments and method statements submitted in time, reviewed appropriately and included within the agreed work plan before execution.

Engineering and maintenance planning

  • Plan and coordinate engineering and maintenance work across the distillery and maturation estate, ensuring activities are clearly scoped, prioritised, scheduled and aligned with operational requirements.

Work scheduling and plan governance

  • Develop and maintain short, medium and longer-term maintenance plans covering preventive maintenance, corrective work, statutory tasks, contractor activity, shutdown works and operational access requirements.

Permit to work management

  • Control and manage the permit to work system for engineering and maintenance activities, ensuring permits are prepared, reviewed, authorised and issued in accordance with company procedures and site safety requirements.

RAMS coordination and compliance

  • Ensure all planned tasks have suitable and sufficient risk assessments, method statements and required supporting documentation submitted, reviewed and approved in advance of work being added to or released from the plan.

Shutdown and outage planning

  • Support the planning and coordination of shutdowns, outages and major maintenance windows, ensuring work packs, permits, RAMS, materials, services, contractors and access requirements are prepared in advance.

Contractor work coordination

  • Coordinate contractor maintenance and engineering activities so that contractor work is planned, documented, risk assessed and integrated into site schedules without compromising safety, production or compliance.

Maintenance system and data management

  • Maintain accurate planning information within the CMMS or maintenance management system, including work orders, task status, priorities, resource needs, completion updates and backlog visibility.

Planning meetings and cross-functional coordination

  • Lead planning meetings with engineering, production, HSE and site teams to agree priorities, resolve constraints, confirm work readiness and communicate planned activity clearly.

Compliance, safety and risk control

  • Ensure engineering and maintenance work is planned in accordance with health and safety requirements, statutory obligations, site rules, permit requirements and company engineering standards.

Continuous improvement

  • Identify and deliver improvements to planning discipline, permit compliance, maintenance readiness, shutdown preparation, contractor coordination and workflow efficiency across the estate.

Skills and experience that will help you be a success:

For this role we're looking for:

  • Experience in engineering planning, maintenance planning, maintenance coordination or engineering administration within manufacturing, process, utilities, food and drink, spirits or a similarly regulated operational environment.

  • Engineering qualification, apprenticeship, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline is desirable.

  • Good understanding of maintenance planning principles, work order management and planned maintenance routines.

  • Experience using a CMMS, EAM or computerised maintenance management system.

  • Strong understanding of permit to work systems, safe systems of work and contractor control is desirable.

  • Practical knowledge of risk assessments, method statements and supporting documentation requirements.

  • Experience coordinating maintenance contractors and multi-discipline engineering tasks.

  • Understanding of statutory inspection requirements and maintenance compliance activities.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple workstreams across different sites and stakeholder groups.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing requirements and challenge incomplete work requests constructively.

  • Awareness of mechanical, electrical, controls, utilities and process equipment maintenance requirements.

  • IOSH, NEBOSH, permit to work, contractor control, risk assessment or CMMS training would be advantageous.
