The Host is responsible for providing the highest quality of service to guests in an attentive, courteous, and efficient manner. He/she is also responsible for organizing the floor, the floor plan, distribution of sections, menus etc. Host/Hostess communicates with kitchen team at all times as well as the MOD.
Additionally, the Host maintains menus, host stand and reservation system/phone. Proper etiquette is a must at all times.
- Employees must at all times be attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.
- Have a thorough knowledge of menus and current specials in applicable outlets.
- Service guests with all food and beverage requirements in an attentive, courteous, and efficient manner.
- Be familiar with the operation of the Open Table
- Ensure menus are clean.
- Ensure that there are updated menus for each shift.
- Perform opening and closing procedures and side-work duties.
- Ensure that the host stands is kept stocked, tidy and clean.
- Service guests to the standard steps of service.
- Escort guests to their tables and pull chairs for them.
- Bring the guest’s drinks using a tray when escorting them to the restaurant from the bar.
- Be familiar with fire extinguishers, locations and know how to use them.
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
- Some food and beverage experience at a luxury hotel or restaurant an asset.
- Proficient knowledge of wines, spirits, and mixed drinks. (bench test preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
- Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally
- Ability to stand for the entire shift.

- Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
- Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Raffles Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
- Comply with Raffles Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
- Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
- Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
- Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas if needed.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
- Perform other duties if requested by management.
- Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
- Hourly Wage: Intro rate $26.42 - wage after 90-day probationary period is $29.36
