Project Manager – Specialised Pavements & Projects

We are currently seeking a Project Manager to join our Specialised Pavements and Projects team. This position is ideally suited to candidates with experience in asphalt, surfacing, paving or civil construction, particularly across racetracks, airports, major roadworks and specialised pavement projects.

The role will be responsible for the delivery of exciting specialised pavement projects, requiring a high level of independent decision-making while working collaboratively across project and business teams.

This position will require national travel and can be based in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning and delivery of civil and specialised pavement projects, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to specification.
• Manage and mentor supervisors and crews, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Oversee project financials including budgeting, forecasting, claims and reconciliations.
• Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
• Monitor and report on KPIs, productivity and quality standards.
• Ensure plant, materials and resources are effectively managed.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational performance.
• Champion Zero Harm and uphold Downer’s values across all operations.

What you’ll bring

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Business Management or a related discipline.
• 10+ years’ experience in civil construction, ideally across asphalt, surfacing, paving, airports, major roadworks or specialised pavement projects.
• Strong financial acumen and experience managing project budgets.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership capability and ability to drive team performance.
• Strong commitment to safety and Zero Harm.
• Ability to travel nationally as required.
