Our client is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to support secure, reliable, and cost-efficient platform operations. This role will focus on multi-cloud Kubernetes environments, internal developer platforms, CI/CD, data workflows, stateful services, observability, platform automation, and security practices. The position is based in Bethesda, MD, or Boca Raton, FL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own multi-cloud Kubernetes platforms on Azure AKS and Google Cloud GKE, including cluster topology, networking, RBAC, and security policies.

  • Build and evolve an internal developer platform with Backstage, including service catalogs, golden-path templates, scorecards, and self-service scaffolding.

  • Engineer CI/CD at scale using Jenkins and GitHub Actions, including pipelines-as-code, environment promotion, secrets management, and artifact provenance.

  • Orchestrate batch and data workflows with Argo Workflows, including multi-tenant DAGs, resource quotas, artifact and versioning strategies, and operational guardrails.

  • Operate and tune Kafka, CockroachDB, Couchbase, and Elasticsearch, with responsibility for capacity planning, replication, backup and restore, and disaster recovery.

  • Establish end-to-end observability using Prometheus metrics, Grafana dashboards, and Grafana Tempo tracing.

  • Define and support SLOs, error budgets, actionable alerting, and on-call runbooks.

  • Build platform tooling and automation in Go, Node.js, and C#/.NET, including CLIs, controllers/operators, APIs, and integrations.

  • Drive security, compliance, and reliability practices, including image signing, SBOMs, secrets management, network policies, least privilege, cost monitoring, incident response, and postmortems.

  • Collaborate with teams developing in C#/.NET, Go, and Node.js.

  • Identify practical AI use cases and integrate tools that deliver measurable impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-cloud Kubernetes platforms, including AKS and GKE.

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and GitHub Actions.

  • Experience with Backstage or comparable internal developer platform capabilities, including service catalogs, reusable templates, and self-service workflows.

  • Experience with Argo Workflows for batch or data workflow orchestration.

  • Experience operating distributed and stateful data services, including Kafka, CockroachDB, Couchbase, and Elasticsearch.

  • Experience with observability practices and tools, including Prometheus, Grafana, and Tempo.

  • Platform development experience with Go, Node.js, and C#/.NET.

  • Knowledge of security, compliance, reliability, secrets management, network policies, least privilege, cost monitoring, incident response, and postmortems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience tuning Kafka, CockroachDB, Couchbase, and Elasticsearch.

  • Experience with backup and restore strategies and disaster recovery for distributed data services.

  • Experience designing secure, scalable, and cost-efficient Kubernetes environments.

  • Experience developing platform tooling such as CLIs, controllers/operators, APIs, and integrations.

Why This Opportunity May Be Appealing

  • Contribute to the evolution of a practical internal developer platform with reusable templates and self-service capabilities.

  • Work across Azure AKS and Google Cloud GKE in a multi-cloud environment.

  • Help shape CI/CD, data workflow orchestration, observability, security, and reliability practices.

  • Build automation and developer-focused tooling across Go, Node.js, and C#/.NET.

  • Participate in practical AI initiatives focused on measurable impact.
