Embedded Software Design Engineer

Location: Mansfield, Nottinghamshire (NG17 1JF) - Onsite
Salary: c. 50,000 (dependent on experience) + Benefits
Job Type: Permanent

Rullion is recruiting on behalf of our client for an Embedded Software Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Mansfield.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer / Embedded Software Design Engineer to work on innovative electronics and embedded systems within a technically focused engineering environment.

You'll be responsible for designing, developing and testing embedded software solutions, ensuring projects are delivered to the required standards for quality, reliability, performance, cost and timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded software for a range of electronics systems, in line with project requirements.
  • Deliver robust, reliable and cost-effective software solutions to agreed customer deadlines.
  • Ensure software designs meet relevant industry, design, quality, Health & Safety and regulatory standards.
  • Apply and continuously improve embedded software development best practice.
  • Support fault analysis, testing, commissioning and technical problem solving.
  • Undertake and support unit testing, integration testing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and site testing/commissioning.
  • Follow appropriate change control and version control processes.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and project teams to deliver agreed technical objectives.
  • Report quality, Health & Safety or other relevant issues to the Engineering Manager.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timescales, cost and quality requirements.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Significant experience in embedded software design/development within an electronics, embedded systems or similar engineering environment.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical, logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • A self-motivated, disciplined and innovative approach.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A strong customer and quality focus.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Rail industry experience and knowledge of relevant rail standards would be desirable but is not essential.

Technical Skills

Experience with a range of the following is required:

  • C / C++
  • C#
  • Visual Studio
  • .NET / MFC
  • Visual Basic
  • Windows CE 5.0 / CE 6.0
  • ARM9, 8051, PIC and x86
  • SQL
  • Assembler
  • RTOS

Desirable experience includes TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML and CSS for web application development.

You should also have knowledge or experience of fault analysis, unit and integration testing, Factory Acceptance Testing, site testing and commissioning, test procedures, change control and version control.
