As part of the Secure the Enterprise initiative, develop capabilities to shift from the current manual system security evaluation and authorization process to a new model that emphasizes automation, streamlined processes and approvals, continuous monitoring and assessment, and network data gathering across the entire life cycle of a project. Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and analysis.
- Develop and maintain database structures that integrate with the overall architecture of the system.
- Create new workflows to replace existing processes as needed and provide break/fix support, system updates, and ongoing maintenance.
- Lead the development of database structures, database parser software, and database loading software.
- Support the development and testing of Python-based REST endpoints, microservices, and data model management capabilities using Django and Flask frameworks.
- Integrate with MariaDB, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL data models to retrieve, process, and transmit data in JSON format to user interface (UI) front ends Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance is required. (e.g. Active TS/SCI security clearance with agency appropriate polygraph). Capabilities The Level 2 Database Engineer provides technical expertise in database design, development, implementation, and maintenance to support the Secure the Enterprise initiative. The position is responsible for developing scalable database architectures, managing information storage and retrieval, optimizing data flows, and implementing automated workflows to modernize system security evaluation and authorization processes.
- Support database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and analysis activities.
- Lead and support the development of relational and/or object-oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software.
- Lead the development of database structures that integrate with the overall architecture of the system under development.
- Design database structures that balance data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security, and domain controls.
- Develop short- and long-term requirements and recommendations for database administration and design.
- Develop requirements and recommendations throughout the project life cycle, from project inception through completion, for business and Information Technology (IT) subject matter areas ranging from simple to complex systems.
- Support database engineering activities from initial requirements development through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC).
- Analyze and evaluate system improvements, optimization opportunities, development requirements, and ongoing maintenance efforts.
- Translate business and technical requirements into usable database schemas by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros.
- Update existing queries and develop new queries to manipulate, consolidate, and organize data into master files.
- Develop complex database systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), and cloud-based database storage and retrieval methodologies.
- Develop and maintain automated workflows to replace manual processes, streamline approvals, and support continuous monitoring and assessment.
- Develop and test Python-based REST endpoints and microservices using Django and Flask frameworks.
- Support data model management and integration with MariaDB, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL, including transmitting requested data in JSON format to UI front ends.
- Provide database troubleshooting, break/fix support, system updates, and ongoing maintenance Required Qualifications

- Five (5) years of experience as a Database Engineer (DBE) on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of additional DBE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- Experience designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining relational and/or object-oriented database systems.
- Experience developing database structures, database parser software, and database loading software.
- Experience developing and testing Python-based REST endpoints and microservices using Django and Flask.
- Experience working with MariaDB, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL database technologies.
- Experience developing database schemas, ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros for data manipulation and consolidation.
- Experience developing database architectures that accommodate data volumes, user capacity, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention requirements, security, and domain controls.
- Experience supporting database engineering throughout the system development life cycle, including requirements development, system acceptance testing, and Initial Operational Capability (IOC).
- Experience analyzing and evaluating database improvements, optimization, development, and maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and cloud-based database storage and retrieval methodologies.
- Ability to translate business and technical requirements into functional database structures and solutions. Education substitution clarification: This position requires five years of DBE experience and permits an additional five years of DBE experience in place of the bachelor's degree. This generally means a candidate using the substitution would need ten years of qualifying DBE experience. - Database Design and Architecture: Database schema development, data modeling, database structures, logical and physical data distribution, and integration with overall system architecture.
- Database Development: Database parser software, database loading software, database queries, tables, scripts, and macros.
- Data Management and Integration: Information storage and retrieval, data flow analysis, data manipulation, master file creation, and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).
- Cloud Database Technologies: Cloud-based database storage and retrieval methodologies.
- Database Performance and Optimization: Data volume management, user capacity planning, response time optimization, retention requirements, and database performance analysis.
- Security and Domain Controls: Database security requirements, domain controls, and support for Secure the Enterprise system security evaluation and authorization processes.
- Automation and Workflow Development: Automated database workflows, process modernization, streamlined approvals, and replacement of manual processes.
- Requirements Development: Short- and long-term database administration requirements, business and IT requirements analysis, and technical recommendations.
- System Development and Testing: System development life cycle (SDLC), system acceptance testing, Initial Operational Capability (IOC), and system improvement evaluation.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Database break/fix support, system updates, issue resolution, ongoing maintenance, and operational optimization. Desired Technical Skills
