Quick Overview
Job Description
Safety Coordinator | Nox Metals | Detroit, MI
Nox Metals is a technology company in Detroit supplying metal. We use software and automation to supply metal to American factories faster than the industry thought possible.
This is the first dedicated safety role at Nox, but you won’t be alone on the floor. Shift leads are trained to run the basics: periodic checks, stop-work authority, incident documentation. Your job is to build the program underneath them: the standards, the training, the audits, the paper trail that holds up when OSHA or a customer asks for it.
You will:
· Build the safety program from the ground up: written procedures, training curriculum, recordkeeping, the works, with assistance as needed from People Operations
· Train and support shift leads on their safety duties so the basics run without you in the room
· Run incident investigation to closure
· Own OSHA recordkeeping (300 log, reporting, postings) and keep the site audit-ready
· Manage PPE program, machine guarding checks, and lockout/tagout compliance
· Conduct floor audits
· Lead safety training for new hires and periodic refreshers for existing staff
· Build the incident and near-miss reporting culture from scratch, including how stop-work authority actually gets used
· Work with ops and the software team on engineering controls when a safety issue points back to process or equipment design
You are:
· Experienced in safety or EHS in a hands-on manufacturing or industrial setting, ready to run your own program
· Familiar with OSHA general industry requirements
· Comfortable building a program instead of maintaining one someone else designed
· Able to walk the floor, talk to a machine operator, and write it up in a way that holds up later
· Able to hold a line with a shift lead who wants to skip a step
Nice to have:
· Metals or CNC manufacturing background
· Experience in a facility handling ITAR-controlled or export-restricted material
· OSHA 30 or equivalent certification
· Experience building a safety program from zero, not just running an existing one
