Location: Oakham, Rutland (LE15 7FW) – UK & International Travel Required
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

We are now looking for a skilled and motivated Service Engineer to join our growing Field Service Division.

The Role – What Will You Be Doing?

As a Service Engineer, you will play an important role in delivering specialist engineering services directly to our customers, ensuring equipment is maintained, repaired and operating to the highest standards.

Working within our Field Service Division, you will travel to customer sites throughout the UK, supporting a variety of technical projects and engineering requirements. As a specialist in industrial alternator unit & power generation, no two days will be the same. This is a varied, hands-on position where technical expertise, adaptability and excellent customer service are essential.

Your typical responsibilities will include:

  • Routine mechanical and electronic component testing.
  • Completing field-based alternator bearing replacements.
  • Completing on-site alternator health checks and producing associated inspection reports.
  • Identification of components to facilitate planned works.
  • Fault diagnosis both at Cabel and at customer sites where required.
  • Preparing and completing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) to ensure all work is undertaken safely and within scope.
  • Communicating directly with customers to understand their requirements and ensure the successful completion of engineering activities.
  • Ensuring all work complies with company quality procedures, health and safety legislation and relevant industry standards.
  • Travelling throughout the UK and internationally, sometimes at short notice, to support customer requirements.

As a Service Engineer, you will represent Cabel UK directly at customer sites, playing a key role in maintaining our reputation for technical excellence, reliability and outstanding service.

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a technically capable, proactive and customer-focused individual who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Essential skills and qualities:

  • A minimum of 3 years field service experience in an electro-mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Practical experience working with industrial machinery or engineering equipment.
  • Good electrical and mechanical knowledge, with the ability to apply technical skills in practical situations.
  • A sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • The ability to work independently, use initiative and solve technical problems effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence interacting directly with customers.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Attention to detail when preparing technical reports and service documentation.
  • A flexible approach to working hours and willingness to travel nationally, including at short notice. A can-do attitude to get jobs done.
  • Ability to accommodate semi-regular overnight stays dependant on job location (up to 2-3 nights per week).
  • Basic IT literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable but not essential:

  • A relevant electromechanical qualification (or experience) i.e HNC/ Beng/ relevant OEM experience, suitable military discipline.
  • Experience working with rotating electrical equipment, alternators, generators or associated power generation products.
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems and technical fault-finding.
  • Experience preparing RAMS and technical service reports.
  • Relevant site safety certification, such as ECS/ SPA/CCS.
  • Experience working on Low Voltage (LV) & High Voltage (HV) systems and equipment.
