Position Overview
The Office of Coast Survey (OCS) has a robust communications portfolio that includes personal
interactions with partners (domestic and international), social media, web, internal employee outreach, and more. This opportunity will allow candidates to work closely with senior NOS and NOAA communications specialists in shaping the messaging for U.S. national mapping and charting programs. The candidate will gain experience in federal processes, publish content on growing platforms, identify topics for content creation, use creativity to convey information and support the nation’s maritime economy.
Communications Specialist:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Years of Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience working with federal agency policies or Congressional engagement.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong written and oral communications, analysis and interpersonal skills.
Requires the ability to understand and interpret technical materials and convey to different audiences.
Experience with Google collaborative tools, MS Word, and PowerPoint, InDesign, as well as familiarity with website development, social media apps, and web and social media analytics.
Familiarity with web content tools (e.g., WordPress, GoogleSites) to manage online content.
Designing and executing communication plans to meet organizational goals.
Analyzing situations and developing proactive, creative, and engaging communication strategies.
Responding quickly to changing circumstances and crises.
Attend standing meetings with NOS, Customer Affairs Branch, and Office of Marine and Aviation Operations.
