Software Engineering Manager<br />London (Hybrid) | Permanent, Full-time | Reports to the CTO<br />Salary: £120,000 - £130,000 The role<br />Our client is evolving its engineering organisation into a modern, high-performing, scalable team, and needs an Engineering Manager to lead that shift.
You'll sit between technology, strategy and leadership: setting the technical culture, building the capabilities the team needs, and embedding engineering best practices across the business. This is a hands-on leadership role.
You'll work with senior stakeholders and product leaders across an international organisation to shape a long-term technology vision, while coaching engineers and setting the standard for how software gets built. Tech stack<br />Backend: Python, C# or Go<br />Frontend: React or Angular<br />Cloud:
AWS, Azure or GCP What you'll do Lead, coach and mentor software engineers across a range of experience levels<br />Run 1:1s, performance reviews and career development planning<br />Drive hiring, onboarding and retention<br />Oversee architecture decisions and keep them aligned with long-term technical strategy<br />Stay hands-on where it counts: code reviews, design input, troubleshooting<br />Partner with product to define roadmaps, scope projects and prioritise work<br />Run sprint planning and delivery, track velocity and remove blockers<br />Champion testing, CI/CD, monitoring and observability<br />Guide incident response and root cause analysis<br />Translate technical concepts into business impact, and the reverse<br />Contribute to budgeting, resource planning and technology strategy<br />What you'll bring Proven track record managing and developing software engineering teams<br />Strong technical background in modern, cloud-native development<br />Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure or GCP<br />Experience with Agile and scalable engineering practices<br />Familiarity with DevOps, microservices or data-driven architectures<br />Experience leading geographically distributed or cross-functional teams<br />Background in a high-growth, fast-paced environment<br />Strong communication, conflict-resolution and organisational skills<br />Ability to align team output with business goals while protecting solid technical foundations<br />What's on offer The chance to build and shape a high-impact engineering organisation<br />A collaborative culture where new ideas are encouraged<br />Competitive salary, benefits and professional development support
