Job Description

Senior Project Manager, Finance & Accounting

Duration: Contract, 12 months Possible contract to hire after 6 months

Location: Hybrid on site, the consultant must live in an area that facilitates “up to” 5 days a week onsite in the East Bay Area

 

Position Summary:

  • We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager to lead strategic finance transformation initiatives across the organization.
  • This individual will partner closely with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, Internal Audit, Tax, Operations, and Technology teams to deliver complex cross-functional programs that improve financial processes, controls, systems, reporting, and operational efficiency.
  • The ideal candidate combines a strong foundation in Finance, Accounting, Audit, or Financial Operations with exceptional project and program management capabilities.
  • This individual must be able to engage with CFO-level stakeholders, understand end-to-end finance processes, and successfully drive large-scale business transformation initiatives from planning through execution.
  • This role is ideal for someone who began their career in Audit, Accounting, Finance, or Consulting and transitioned into leading enterprise transformation programs. While this is a Senior PM role, it is hands-on managing day-to-day project activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Leadership Project Manage enterprise-wide finance transformation initiatives from inception through successful implementation.
  • Develop project plans, governance frameworks, communication strategies, risk management plans, and executive reporting.
  • Drive accountability across Finance, Accounting, FP&A, IT, Operations, external consultants, and executive stakeholders. Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, resource allocation, risks, and dependencies.
  • Facilitate executive steering committees and provide regular updates to senior leadership. Finance Transformation Partner with Finance leadership to evaluate and improve end-to-end financial processes.
  • Lead business process redesign efforts across key finance functions.
  • Support organizational change management and adoption activities.
  • Cross-Functional Process Improvement Lead projects impacting: Record-to-Report (R2R), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C) Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) General Accounting, Consolidations and Close, Revenue Operations Tax and Internal Audit Compliance and SOX Controls Financial Reporting Budgeting and Forecasting Systems and Technology Initiatives Lead implementation, optimization, or integration of finance and business systems.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to define requirements and deliver solutions. Coordinate testing, training, change management, deployment, and post-go-live support. Ensure business objectives remain aligned with technical execution.
  • Examples include: ERP implementations and upgrades Financial planning systems Reporting and analytics platforms Revenue recognition systems Close automation tools Workflow automation initiatives Post-acquisition integrations Finance operating model transformations

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field. 8+ years of project or program management experience. Experience leading complex Finance, Accounting, ERP, or business transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of core finance and accounting processes. Proven ability to manage cross-functional programs involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Experience delivering large-scale enterprise software or process transformation programs.
  • Outstanding communication and executive presentation skills – ability to “manage up” to the CFO, SVP and VP level. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

CPA, PMP, MBA, CMA, or similar certification. Big 4 Audit, Advisory, or Consulting background. Finance Transformation consulting experience. Experience supporting CFO organizations. Exposure to public company environments and SOX compliance. Experience with mergers, acquisitions, integrations, or business transformation initiatives.
