About OneWell
OneWell is an SEC-registered investment adviser serving ultra-high-net-worth families, family offices, and mission-driven institutions, including endowments and foundations.
We pair institutional-quality investment management across public and private markets with deep advisory support across wealth planning, governance, and philanthropy. Our goal is to help clients build enduring financial strength in service of a greater purpose.
Our clients often have financial lives that do not fit neatly into traditional planning software or standardized solutions. Many are entrepreneurs, founders, executives, and first-generation wealth creators navigating significant liquidity events, concentrated stock positions, complex family decisions, and the transition that comes with creating substantial wealth.
We are a growing, entrepreneurial firm, and we are looking for people who want to help build what comes next.
The Opportunity
The Director, Wealth Planning & Strategy will be a key partner to OneWell's lead advisors and ultra-high-net-worth clients.
Think of this person as a strategist, quarterback, and chief of staff for the family's financial life.
You will help determine what needs to happen, build the analysis behind important client decisions, develop the initial recommendation, prepare the lead advisor for client conversations, and drive execution across investments, tax, estate planning, philanthropy, and other family priorities.
This is not a traditional financial advisor or business-development role. You will not be hired to bring a book of business.
It is also not a narrowly defined planning role where work is handed to you one task at a time. We need someone who can look at a complex client situation, determine what needs to happen, pull together the right people and analysis, and move the work through completion.
Initially, this is an individual contributor role with significant visibility and ownership. As OneWell grows, there is an opportunity to help build and potentially lead a team around this function.
What You Will Do
Own and Drive Complex Client Work
Serve as a key partner to the lead advisor across a portfolio of ultra-high-net-worth relationships.
  • Maintain a comprehensive view of each family's priorities, decisions, deliverables, and open workstreams.
  • Drive initiatives across investments, tax, estate planning, philanthropy, and family financial matters.
  • Identify next steps, owners, dependencies, and potential bottlenecks before they become problems.
  • Coordinate internal investment professionals and external attorneys, CPAs, tax advisors, and other specialists.
  • Keep the lead advisor fully prepared and informed while creating capacity for them to focus on judgment, relationships, and client development.
  • Over time, engage directly with clients and take increasing ownership of appropriate planning conversations and initiatives.
Build Custom Analysis and Recommendations
Develop the analysis behind important client decisions.
  • Build cash flow, liquidity, and balance-sheet analyses across individuals, trusts, partnerships, and other family entities.
  • Incorporate complex and nonstandard client inputs that may not fit within traditional financial-planning software.
  • Analyze liquidity events, including business sales, concentrated stock and equity compensation, real estate dispositions, and other significant changes in wealth.
  • Model spending, taxes, debt service, charitable commitments, private-market capital calls and distributions, and other liquidity requirements.
  • Run scenario analyses to help clients understand trade-offs and make informed decisions.
  • Translate planning insights into recommendations for liquidity, investment strategy, and other client decisions.
We are less concerned with fancy Excel tricks than with whether you can take a complicated real-life situation, structure the problem, build a thoughtful analysis, and arrive at an actionable recommendation.
Turn Analysis Into a Clear Client Story
Great analysis only matters if the client understands what to do next.
  • Develop the first draft of recommendations rather than waiting for an advisor to prescribe the answer.
  • Create polished client presentations, planning memos, proposals, and meeting materials.
  • Explain the decision, alternatives, trade-offs, and recommended next steps clearly.
  • Prepare lead advisors for client meetings by synthesizing the most important information and outstanding decisions.
  • Tailor communication to founders, executives, families, next-generation family members, and other stakeholders.
  • Support planning-led prospect conversations where thoughtful analysis demonstrates OneWell's value.
Coordinate Wealth, Estate, Tax, and Philanthropic Planning
You do not need to be the client's attorney or CPA, but you should understand sophisticated planning well enough to quarterback the process.
  • Frame questions for estate attorneys, tax professionals, and other outside advisors.
  • Coordinate estate and wealth-transfer initiatives, including gifting, trust funding, and entity structures.
  • Support planning around donor-advised funds, private foundations, charitable trusts, and other philanthropic strategies.
  • Evaluate planning implications alongside liquidity and investment considerations.
  • Track decisions and follow through until recommendations are implemented.
Help Build the Platform
OneWell is growing, and this hire will help shape how we serve clients in the future.
  • Build repeatable systems for managing complex UHNW relationships.
  • Develop templates, models, workflows, and planning deliverables that can scale without becoming cookie-cutter.
  • Establish processes for tracking client priorities and ensuring commitments are completed.
  • Help define what exceptional client service looks like at OneWell.
  • Create a blueprint that future wealth-planning team members can follow.
This is a role for someone who enjoys building, not simply inheriting an established playbook.
What We're Looking For
Required
  • Meaningful experience supporting ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, or family offices, ideally clients with approximately $20M+ in assets.
  • Experience in a multi-family office, UHNW-focused RIA, private bank, trust company, boutique advisory environment, or a customized UHNW team within a larger organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex client workstreams and drive them through completion.
  • Strong analytical and financial-modeling skills, including the ability to create customized analysis rather than relying exclusively on standardized planning software.
  • Experience developing recommendations or plans, not simply executing analysis defined by someone else.
  • Ability to translate financial analysis into polished, concise client presentations and recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of investments and sophisticated wealth-planning considerations.
  • Experience working across multiple areas such as investments, tax, trusts and estate planning, wealth transfer, and philanthropy.
  • Experience coordinating with attorneys, CPAs, tax professionals, investment professionals, or other outside advisors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort operating independently in a growing, entrepreneurial organization where every process may not already be defined.
We are flexible on exact years of experience. Depth, complexity, initiative, and the work you have personally owned matter more to us than hitting a specific number.
Especially Relevant Experience
You may be particularly well suited for this role if you have experience with:
  • Founders, entrepreneurs, or technology executives
  • First-generation wealth creators
  • Business sales and other major liquidity events
  • Concentrated stock positions and equity compensation
  • Complex liquidity and cash-flow modeling
  • Private-market capital calls, distributions, or commitment pacing
  • Trust and estate structures
  • Wealth-transfer and gifting strategies
  • Charitable planning and family philanthropy
  • Multi-entity family balance sheets
  • Building new client-service processes or planning capabilities
  • Serving clients across a variety of cultural, international, religious, or family backgrounds
Credentials
CFP , CFA, CPA, JD, or CPWA credentials are valued but not required.
We care most about what you have actually done.
For example, a CFP who has personally handled sophisticated planning for $20M+ families may be highly relevant. A CFA with broad planning and client-strategy experience may also be compelling. Tax or estate-planning professionals who have moved into broader UHNW wealth strategy and are comfortable with investments and financial modeling are also encouraged to apply.
