About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator for a contract opportunity supporting a large Federal Government agency.

The immediate priority is supporting critical MongoDB upgrades and migrations, alongside specialist database administration across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS and Db2 Midrange.

You will work closely with agency technical teams to plan, test and implement controlled changes, maintain data integrity and availability, and strengthen database performance and resilience.

What you'll do
  • Assess database environments and identify upgrade, compatibility, performance and operational risks.
  • Plan, validate and implement database upgrades and migrations while minimising downtime.
  • Provide performance tuning, replication, backup, recovery and production support.
  • Support databases in containerised environments and manage associated deployment and operational risks.
  • Document configuration changes, upgrade procedures, risks and lessons learned.
  • Support knowledge transfer and skills development within agency teams.
What you'll bring
  • Expert-level SQL Server administration, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability and security.
  • Expert-level administration of Db2 z/OS and Db2 Midrange.
  • Expert-level MongoDB administration, including replication, backup and recovery, performance tuning and data consistency.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering controlled database upgrades and migrations.
  • Hands on experience supporting databases in containerised environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Experience in complex government or enterprise ICT environments, and supporting technical knowledge transfer, will be highly regarded.
Contract details
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Estimated start: 1 January 2027
  • Locations: Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide
  • Working arrangements: Hybrid arrangements may be considered. Candidates must live within reasonable travelling distance of the nominated office and attend onsite as required.
  • Security clearance: NV1 or higher must be held before commencement.
  • Occasional out-of-hours work may be required for scheduled upgrades or complex incidents.
