Job description

Who we are
The real world is the next frontier, and at Metropolis, we are creating the artificial intelligence to make it responsive. We are pioneering the Recognition Economy — a future where mundane repetition disappears and being known unlocks access, comfort, and belonging everywhere you go. From transforming parking into a seamless drive-in, drive-out experience for millions of Members to expanding our intelligence layer across retail and hospitality, we are building a world that feels instinctive and magical. The future isn't coming; it's here, and we need builders, innovators, and problem solvers to help us create it.

Who you are
Metropolis is seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer to design, architect, and expand our suite of automated testing frameworks and tools. As a senior member and system steward within the Engineering team, you will leverage your automation expertise—specifically across Playwright and native mobile testing tools—to drive testing strategies across our web, mobile, and backend products. You will play a critical role in end-to-end debugging, translating complex business and technical requirements, and establishing high standards for engineering craft to deliver a remarkable, bug-free, and performant user experience.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and scale automated test frameworks for Web and Mobile applications using Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript/Python) alongside native mobile frameworks (Appium, Detox, XCUITest, or Espresso)
  • Perform comprehensive API testing and SQL/database verification to ensure seamless data flow and end-to-end system reliability
  • Conduct performance and load testing using tools such as k6 or JMeter, while embedding security best practices and penetration testing awareness into the quality lifecycle
  • Partner cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to analyze complex requirements, anticipate potential blockers, and establish comprehensive test strategies
  • Debug complex, multi-system issues proactively across the stack, driving root cause analysis and turning production defects into continuous platform improvements
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI) and design automated feedback loops and harness patterns that empower agents and engineers to self-correct
  • Champion Spec-Driven Development (SDD) and agentic AI workflows across the team, establishing reusable test generation patterns and mentoring engineers to elevate overall craft

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of experience as a QA Automation Engineer with a proven track record of taking ownership of large-scope initiatives and driving outcomes cross-functionally
  • Strong hands-on experience architecting and maintaining automation frameworks using Playwright, with proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python
  • Deep expertise in Web and Mobile testing methodologies, including hands-on experience with native mobile frameworks like Appium, Detox, XCUITest, or Espresso
  • Demonstrated proficiency in REST API validation, complex SQL/database verification, and performance/load testing frameworks like k6 or JMeter
  • Firm understanding of agile engineering processes across the SDLC, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI), and security/penetration testing fundamentals
  • Fluency with Spec-Driven Development (SDD) and agentic AI tools (e.g., Claude Code) to design self-correcting test harnesses and accelerate development workflows
  • Strong system stewardship, skilled analytical problem-solving, and the ability to diagnose root causes across distributed systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of articulating technical rationale, mentoring peers, and fostering inclusive collaboration

3 Days in Office: Metropolis values in-person collaboration to drive innovation, strengthen culture, and enhance the Member experience. Our corporate team members hold to our office-first model, which requires employees to be on-site at least four days a week, fostering organic interactions that spark creativity and connection

When you join Metropolis, you'll join a team of world-class product leaders and engineers, building an ecosystem of technologies at the intersection of parking, mobility, and real estate. Our goal is to build an inclusive culture where everyone has a voice and the best idea wins.#L
