Application Decommissioning Consultant

Your new company
You will be joining a major enterprise undergoing application rationalisation and technology modernisation initiatives. The organisation is focused on reducing Legacy technology estate, simplifying application landscapes, and ensuring the safe retirement of redundant systems while maintaining business continuity and operational stability.
Your new role
As an Application Decommissioning Consultant, you will lead and coordinate end-to-end application decommissioning discovery activities across multiple technical work streams, including Application, Infrastructure, Network, Database, Security, Integration, and Operations teams. You will be responsible for assessing application dependencies, defining decommissioning strategies, creating run books and roadmaps, and ensuring all technical and governance requirements are identified prior to application retirement. Acting as the central point of coordination, you will facilitate workshops with SMEs, reconcile conflicting findings, and produce consolidated assessment reports and decommissioning recommendations.

What you'll need to succeed

• 15+ years of experience in application consulting, IT transformation, application rationalisation, or IT service management.
• Proven experience delivering application decommissioning, retirement, rationalisation, or technology modernisation programmes.
• Strong understanding of enterprise application landscapes and dependency management.
• Experience working across Application, Infrastructure, Network, Database, Security, Integration, and Operations teams.
• Good knowledge of Java/web applications, APIs, integrations, databases, batch processing, cloud infrastructure, networking, IAM/Active Directory, certificates, and monitoring tools.
• Experience performing application dependency mapping and impact assessments.
• Ability to facilitate technical workshops and engage with multiple SME groups.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to challenge technical assumptions, identify risks and gaps, and drive informed decision-making.
