About the role
Are you a practical, hands-on individual who takes pride in maintaining safe, welcoming environments? We're looking for a proactive and reliable Maintenance Operative (Caretaker) to join our dedicated team and help ensure our school remains a safe, secure, and well-maintained place for pupils, staff, and visitors.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with maintenance, trades, facilities, or caretaking experience who enjoys a varied role where no two days are the same. From carrying out repairs and security checks to supporting school events and ensuring our grounds remain well-presented, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of our school.
What you will be doing
- Opening and securing the school site and buildings.
- Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep tasks.
- Conducting regular site security, health and safety, and compliance checks.
- Setting and monitoring alarm systems and responding to security concerns.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment across the school grounds.
- Supporting school events, lettings, and activities outside core hours when required.
- Reporting maintenance issues and assisting with planned preventative maintenance.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and contractors to maintain high standards across the site.
What you'll bring
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Have experience in a maintenance, caretaker, facilities, trades, or grounds maintenance role.
- Hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
- Possess practical skills in areas such as plumbing, decorating, joinery, electrical work, or general repairs.
- Are self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently.Have good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Take pride in maintaining safe and high-quality environments.
- Can manage competing priorities and respond positively to unexpected challenges.
- Are willing to develop new skills and undertake relevant training.
While not essential, we'd love to hear from candidates with:
- IWFM Level 2, IOSH, First Aid at Work, Fire Marshal, or other Health & Safety qualifications.
- Experience working within a school, education, or similar environment.
- Facilities management or grounds maintenance experience.
