Job description
“Having worked over 20 years, in both consultancies and council, my experience working at AECOM has been refreshing and motivating” – Dominique Keirens, Sector Manager – Water Infrastructure, SEQ
Come grow with us.
Balancing the world’s need for safe, reliable water with protecting this critical natural resource for the future requires a deep understanding of interconnected systems.
We work with clients across the entire project life cycle — from initial planning studies through final construction and operations and maintenance services — on both traditional and alternative project-delivery options (design-build, public-private partnerships and financing).
With a robust design and construction division, AECOM offers a unique perspective on designing projects that are fully constructible.
Everyone belongs at AECOM
We’re committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging - because great ideas come from diverse perspectives. AECOM is proud to be a Fortune 500 Most Admired Company, a WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality, #Work180 Equitable Workplace Awards 2025 Winner and an AWEI Bronze Tier LGBTQ+ Inclusive Employer.
Due to significant contract awards across our Water business, we are expanding our Water Infrastructure team in Melbourne. With a strong and growing pipeline of work, we're seeking an experienced civil engineer to help deliver some of the most significant water conveyance and pipeline projects across Victoria and Australia.
Our Water Infrastructure team partners with a diverse range of clients to deliver projects across major water transmission pipelines, wastewater conveyance systems, pump stations, integrated networks, dams, asset management, industrial infrastructure, and defence sectors. We are committed to developing sustainable, resilient infrastructure that supports population growth, water security, and the communities our clients serve.
By joining our team, you'll have the opportunity to work on complex, large-scale pipeline and network infrastructure projects, collaborating with technical specialists across Australia and New Zealand. You'll be supported by industry-leading experts and exposed to various stages of the project lifecycle, from planning and design through to construction and commissioning.
How you'll make a difference
- Deliver innovative pipeline and water network solutions as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute across the full project lifecycle, from concept development, route selection and detailed design through to construction support and commissioning.
- Lead or support the design of major water transmission, wastewater conveyance and pumping infrastructure projects.
- Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and project stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes.
- Apply your technical expertise to solve complex conveyance, hydraulic and network challenges.
- Support business development activities, including tender preparation and technical proposals for major infrastructure opportunities.
- Mentor and develop emerging engineers while continuing to grow your own technical and leadership capabilities.
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.
The qualities that help you thrive
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with CPEng and/or RPEV highly regarded.
- Experience working with water authorities and approval processes, including familiarity with MRWA Design Acceptance Standards (DAS) requirements, would be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in the planning, design and delivery of water and wastewater pipeline, conveyance or network infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of pipeline design principles, hydraulic analysis and water or wastewater network systems.
- Experience working across the full project lifecycle, from planning and feasibility through to detailed design, construction and commissioning.
- Proven consulting experience and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience leading technical teams and managing project delivery is highly regarded.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and project partners.
Why you’ll love working with us
- Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, part-time, job-sharing and hybrid work options
- Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
- Volunteer and representation leave
- Flex public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?
We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including those with disabilities, additional health or mental health needs, and/or neurodiverse conditions. If you require any adjustments during the hiring process, please let us know.
