The Virginia Vital Events and Screening Tracking System (VVESTS) is currently a PL/SQL Web toolkit application running on Mod PL/SQL gateway. This technology is outdated. All modules in VVESTS capture and deal with highly sensitive data (PII and PHI), so web application security is a high priority. It is critical to use the latest web technologies, JavaScript/jQuery frameworks, templates, and CSS styles to mitigate security vulnerabilities and enforce strict compliance with HIPAA regulations.

VVESTS is a critical system developed by VDH, hosting applications like Virginia's Birth Registry, Death Registry (EDRS), and Screening Registry. VVESTS has multiple interfaces with Virginia State agencies (LVA, DSS, DMV, DCLS) and federal agencies (SSA, CDC, NCHS, NAPHSIS), and performs data exchanges with the Virginia Immunization Information System (VIIS).
