Job Description: Senior Backend Engineer – Service Maintenance

Role: Senior / Lead Backend Engineer
Mode: Remote

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and support production backend services, including incident triage, troubleshooting, and recovery.

• Perform service upgrades, security patches, dependency updates, and cloud infrastructure migrations.

• Monitor and optimize service reliability using alerts, logs, and dashboards.

• Reduce alert noise, resolve technical debt, and safely decommission unused services.

• Maintain runbooks, technical documentation, and service ownership records.

Must-Have Skills

• Strong hands-on Java backend development experience; Python is a plus.

• Experience operating and maintaining distributed, high-volume production systems.

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform.

• Experience with PagerDuty, Grafana, PromethePromQL, or similar monitoring tools.

• Strong incident management, troubleshooting, and production support skills.

• Excellent communication, prioritization, and cross-team collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting large-scale systems serving millions of users.

• Experience with AI coding tools, service migrations, and technical debt reduction.

A senior backend engineer with strong Java skills and production operations experience who can independently troubleshoot, maintain, and improve existing services rather than focus primarily on new feature development.
