Java Developer

We are seeking a Full-Stack Java/React Developer to support the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Project Development and Maintenance programs. This position joins an Agile development team building enterprise Java backend services and modern responsive React user interfaces.

• Client: State of Michigan (MDOT)
• Location: Lansing, MI 48933 (425 W Ottawa St)
• Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Onsite required Tuesdays & Wednesdays)
• Role Type: Contract (09/28/2026 – 09/28/2027, extension likely)
• Interview Process: 2 rounds of in-person interviews in Lansing, MI

Key Responsibilities

• Full-Stack Development: Build, test, and deploy complex backend enterprise Java services and frontend interfaces for MDOT applications.
• Frontend Engineering: Collaborate with UI/UX teams to build modular, responsive components using React.js while ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards.
• Backend Architecture: Write high-performance Java code using Spring Framework, JPA/Hibernate, and JBoss Enterprise Server.
• Database & Reporting: Develop database scripts, stored procedures, and integrations using Oracle 12C/19C, and generate enterprise reporting using tools like Jasper Reports.
• Agile Delivery: Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog grooming, unit testing (JUnit), and continuous development workflows.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or closely related field.
• Java Enterprise Development: 7+ years programming complex systems in Java using JBoss Developer Studio or Eclipse.
• Backend Frameworks: 5+ years with Spring Framework and 5+ years with JPA/Hibernate.
• Frontend Development: 4+ years of hands-on experience building responsive user interfaces with React.js.
• Database & Application Server: 4+ years with Oracle 12C/19C and 4+ years in JBoss Enterprise environment.
• Methodology: 5+ years of software delivery within Agile development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Accessibility Standards: Frontend web development focused on WCAG 2.1+ compliance.
• Testing & Tools: 4+ years with JUnit and Apache Tiles.
• Enterprise Reporting: 4+ years with Jasper Reports or similar reporting engines.
