Job Summary
The Department of Management (DOM) Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking an experienced UI Developer / Accessibility Expert to support the state''s digital modernization initiatives. This role is focused exclusively on front-end development and web accessibility, not backend or full-stack development. The selected candidate will work closely with the Lead UX Architect to build accessible, standards-compliant user interfaces for multiple high-visibility state agency applications, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA accessibility standards.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop clean, semantic, and maintainable HTML5, CSS, and SASS code following modern web standards.
  • Build responsive, accessible user interfaces for enterprise web applications.
  • Integrate front-end components into Angular or ASP.NET MVC applications.
  • Implement accessibility best practices, including WCAG 2.2, ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, focus management, and color contrast compliance.
  • Conduct accessibility testing using screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) and automated tools such as axe DevTools and WAVE.
  • Collaborate closely with the Lead UX Architect to implement enterprise-wide accessibility standards.
  • Support accessibility enhancements for chatbot interfaces, global website components, and shared UI frameworks.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to communicate frontend requirements and accessibility standards.
  • Ensure consistent user experience across multiple state agency projects.
  • Follow responsive design and UI development best practices.
 
Required Skills
  • Strong experience with HTML5 and Semantic HTML
  • Advanced proficiency in CSS3 and SASS
  • Experience developing responsive, accessible web interfaces
  • Hands-on experience implementing WCAG 2.2 Level AA accessibility standards
  • Strong knowledge of ARIA labels, landmarks, and accessibility attributes
  • Experience with keyboard navigation, focus management, and color contrast compliance
  • Experience testing accessibility using NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver
  • Experience with accessibility auditing tools such as axe DevTools and WAVE
  • Experience integrating front-end components into Angular or ASP.NET MVC applications
  • Strong understanding of modern web standards and frontend best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with UX architects, developers, and business stakeholders
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with design systems or reusable UI component libraries
  • Experience with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS)
  • Understanding of UX principles and design workflows
  • Experience supporting enterprise-level digital modernization projects
  • Experience building accessible chatbot interfaces or shared UI components
  • Government or public sector project experience
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
