SOCOTEC UK & Ireland provides specialist testing, inspection, monitoring, surveying and technical consultancy services across the built environment, infrastructure and construction sectors.
Based in Moira, Co. Armagh, our Ireland team delivers projects nationwide, supported by the wider technical expertise, resources and specialist capabilities of the SOCOTEC Group. Our work spans land and engineering surveying, structural and geotechnical monitoring, environmental monitoring, instrumentation and data services, supporting contractors, consultants, asset owners and public-sector organisations.
We are now expanding our surveying capability in Ireland and are looking for an experienced professional to play a key role in that growth. This is an opportunity to take ownership of projects, work with a high degree of autonomy and help shape a developing service, while having access to the support and expertise of the wider SOCOTEC UK & Ireland surveying team.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Land Surveyor to help establish and develop our land surveying capability in Ireland.
This is a senior, hands-on position with responsibility for delivering survey projects from initial enquiry and scope review through to fieldwork, processing, quality assurance and final client deliverables. The successful candidate will be capable of working independently, making sound technical decisions and engaging directly with clients, while having access to the wider SOCOTEC UK & Ireland surveying team for specialist support and additional resources when required.
Projects will span infrastructure, construction, development and the built environment across Ireland, using modern geomatics technologies including robotic total stations, GNSS, digital levels and laser scanning systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, manage and deliver topographical, land, engineering and construction surveys
- Review tender documentation, technical specifications and client scopes to establish survey requirements and appropriate methodologies
- Undertake detailed topographical surveys across buildings, structures, roads, rail, earthworks, utilities and other site features
- Establish and verify survey control networks
- Undertake construction setting-out, as-built and verification surveys where required
- Process, check and validate survey data prior to issue
- Produce survey drawings, digital terrain models, point clouds, reports and other project deliverables
- Maintain appropriate survey quality assurance, checking and data-management procedures
- Prepare or contribute to survey methodologies, programmes and technical tender submissions
- Liaise directly with clients, consultants, contractors and project teams
- Identify opportunities for additional surveying services and support the growth of the Ireland surveying capability
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior survey staff as the team develops
- Collaborate with SOCOTEC surveying, monitoring, engineering and specialist teams on multidisciplinary projects
- Ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with client requirements and company procedures
We are looking for someone with:
- Significant practical experience in land, topographical, engineering or geomatics surveying
- The ability to independently plan, undertake, process and deliver survey projects
- Strong knowledge of survey control, coordinate systems, GNSS, robotic total stations and levelling techniques
- Experience producing and checking professional topographical and engineering survey deliverables
- Experience reviewing technical specifications, tender documentation and scopes of work
- Competence with industry-standard survey processing and CAD software
- Strong understanding of survey accuracy, verification and quality control
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and providing technical advice
- Good organisational and project-management skills
- Commercial awareness and an interest in helping develop a growing service
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel throughout Ireland and the UK when required
Experience in laser scanning, point-cloud processing, UAV surveying, precise levelling, monitoring, BIM or other specialist geomatics techniques would be advantageous.
