Sr. Drupal Developer

Location: Eagan, MN / Remote
Duration: 12+ Months/ Contract

Seeking an experienced Drupal Architect and hands-on developer to design, develop, and support complex backend systems, data integrations, and site architecture for high-traffic, public-facing digital platforms. This engagement requires deep Drupal expertise, including enterprise architecture, system integrations, SSO implementations, and data-driven web applications.

The selected resource will architect and implement scalable Drupal solutions that integrate with external systems, support secure and efficient data exchange, and maintain high standards for performance, security, and maintainability. Working with both business and technical stakeholders, the resource will translate requirements into effective solution designs, provide technical recommendations, and deliver high-quality solutions that support digital experiences for members, prospective members, agents, agencies, clients, and employees. Strong problem-solving skills, technical judgment, and experience delivering complex enterprise Drupal solutions are required.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance custom Drupal modules and solutions with a focus on backend functionality, data processing, and system integrations.
• Design, configure, and support API integrations and related web services with external platforms, including Salesforce, Kong, and other enterprise data sources.
• Configure and implement complex Drupal Webform solutions, including multi-endpoint submissions and dynamic data prepopulation based on user attributes, roles, permissions, and external data sources.
• Design, implement, and maintain Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions, preferably utilizing Microsoft Entra ID.
• Apply Drupal site-building best practices utilizing configuration management, Views, entities, taxonomies, blocks, Layout Builder, and related platform capabilities.
• Configure and support integrations with Acquia DAM and SearchStax to enable digital asset management and enterprise search functionality.
• Provide technical consultation, perform code and pull request reviews, develop technical documentation, and share knowledge regarding Drupal architecture, standards, and implementation approaches.
• Analyze business and technical requirements and produce solution designs, technical specifications, and implementation recommendations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex functional, integration, and application issues across the Drupal platform and related systems.
• Coordinate with business and technical stakeholders to support solution delivery, maintain production quality standards, and achieve project objectives.

Required Skills and Experience

• Five (5) or more years of Drupal development experience, including design and implementation of complex backend solutions, system integrations, identity management solutions, and enterprise-scale web applications.
• Advanced knowledge of Drupal architecture, custom module development, APIs, entities, hooks, plugins, and configuration management.
• Strong backend development experience, including data processing, custom module development, code customization, and delivery of production-ready solutions.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing integrations with external systems using REST APIs, web services, and enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Kong, or comparable technologies.
• Hands-on experience configuring and supporting complex Drupal Webform implementations, including multi-destination submissions, data integrations, and dynamic prepopulation based on user attributes and external data sources.
• Experience implementing and supporting Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions, preferably Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory).
• Proficiency with Drupal site-building capabilities, including Views, content types, taxonomies, blocks, Layout Builder, and configuration management.
• Experience working with Acquia Cloud and Acquia DAM; experience with SearchStax is strongly preferred.
• Experience conducting code reviews, contributing to technical documentation, and promoting development best practices through technical collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Proficiency with Git, Composer, Drush, dependency management, security updates, and local Drupal development environments such as DDEV or Lando.
• Working knowledge of MySQL, Linux-based environments, and troubleshooting application and infrastructure issues.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, recommendations, and solution designs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to develop maintainable, scalable, and supportable solutions while balancing technical requirements and business objectives.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience developing applications or components using modern front-end frameworks, including React.
• Experience evaluating or applying AI-enabled tools and technologies to support software development, content management, automation, or user experiences.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment processes.
• Experience with caching strategies, performance optimization, scalability planning, and application monitoring.
• Working knowledge of front-end development technologies, including JavaScript, Bootstrap, and CSS preprocessors such as SASS or LESS.
• Understanding of accessibility standards, responsive design principles, and user experience considerations for public-facing digital platforms.
• Experience supporting Agile delivery methodologies and working with tools such as Jira.
• Experience with additional content management systems, digital experience platforms, or enterprise web technologies.
