Job Description
The Laborer / Driver is responsible for supporting field operations and construction activities by assisting crews, transporting materials and equipment, operating company vehicles, and performing general labor duties related to telecom and utility construction projects. This role works closely with Field Supervisors and crew members to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and operational requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Assist field crews with daily construction and utility operations
- Safely operate company vehicles to transport crews, materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites
- Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment at operational locations
- Support excavation, restoration, and general construction activities as directed
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of work areas, vehicles, and job sites
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment
- Ensure vehicles, trailers, and equipment are maintained in safe and operational condition
- Assist with traffic control setup and safety zone preparation when required
- Operate basic hand tools and construction equipment safely and properly
- Follow instructions from Field Supervisors, Foremen, and leadership personnel
- Support installation, maintenance, and restoration work related to underground and aerial utility projects
- Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT requirements, safety procedures, PPE requirements, and operational standards
- Assist with equipment preparation, fueling, and maintenance support as needed
- Perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
- Support crews with project setup, cleanup, and operational tasks throughout the workday
- Report unsafe conditions, vehicle concerns, incidents, or operational issues to leadership immediately
- Maintain professionalism and positive communication while working with crews, customers, and the public
- Travel as required based on operational and project needs
- Other duties may be assigned
Organizational Responsibilities:
Follows established policies and procedures by monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and operational processes related to area(s) of responsibility and reporting violations or infractions to appropriate individual(s).
Identifies areas for improvement and offers suggestions to improve the site's efficiency, profitability, and productivity.
Keeps abreast of current changes in technology, logistics tools, processes, and standards within the industry and area(s) of responsibility by attending internal and external training programs and by accessing other sources of information and applying knowledge and practices to area(s) of responsibility.
Work Hours (may vary by location):
This position is scheduled as full time in a regular work week. Additional support within non-regular hours may be required and should be discussed with the supervisor. No additional compensation for overtime is offered for this position.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous construction, labor, telecom, utility, driving, or outdoor work experience preferred
- Experience operating trucks, trailers, or commercial vehicles preferred
- Experience working in physically demanding environments is highly valued
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather and field conditions
- Basic understanding of construction tools, equipment, and job site safety practices preferred
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
- Telecom, underground utility, or aerial construction experience is a plus
Language Ability:
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively to comprehend and complete documents, and answer questions in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as needed.
Math Ability:
Basic mathematical skills required for inventory counts, measurements, and documentation
Reasoning Ability:
Demonstrated ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
- Basic ability to use smartphones, tablets, GPS systems, or mobile applications related to field operations
- Ability to complete digital forms, inspections, timecards, or operational documentation as required
- Familiarity with GPS, mapping tools, or mobile communication platforms is a plus
Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license required
- CDL preferred or may be required based on operational needs
- OSHA certification preferred
- Telecom or construction-related certifications are a plus
- Ability to obtain company-required safety certifications and training
Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Routine, local, or international travel may be required to attend training classes, conduct market research, or other situations necessary for the accomplishment of some or all the daily responsibilities of this position.
