Duration: 6 months + potential to extend

Pay Range: $70/hr - $80/hr (W2)

Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Job Description

The Data Solutions Engineer will support enterprise relational and nonrelational database platforms across on-premises data centers and cloud environments. The role will design and execute technical solutions for cross-technology data store migrations, lifecycle management, and integration of large datasets. The engineer will administer cloud infrastructure used for discovery and analysis of new drug candidates and will collaborate with scientific computing services, shared services, and external providers to deliver reliable operations and new capabilities. Success will be measured by the ability to adapt to change, evaluate best-of-breed technologies, present clear and factual recommendations, and help develop processes for both existing and emerging technologies under guidance from senior staff and management.

Responsibilities:

• Support and optimize enterprise databases including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and emerging solutions such as MongoDB and MariaDB.


• Design and implement database migration strategies across on-premises and cloud, including Amazon RDS and related services.


• Analyze migration requirements and collaborate with platform engineering and storage teams to provision and execute datastore relocations.


• Implement and maintain high-availability database solutions.


• Partner with scientific research stakeholders to deliver data integration, performance tuning, optimization, proofs of concept, and new capabilities.


• Provide operations support across research computing infrastructure, including servers, databases, applications, and networking.


• Interpret structured and unstructured data, analyze results, and provide insights that inform and prioritize business needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 5+ years managing commercial database systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.


• Hands-on experience migrating databases to cloud platforms, including Amazon RDS.


• Proficiency with AWS Schema Conversion Tool and AWS Database Migration Service.


• 2+ years using AWS services, including EC2 and RDS, with familiarity with S3.


• 2+ years working with Oracle ASM, RAC, RMAN, and Data Guard implementations.


• Experience with authentication and security protocols including LDAP, SSL, and SSH.


• Ability to program in a shell language and automate operational tasks.


• Experience with application servers such as Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat.


• Effective communication with architects, data modelers, application developers, business users, and scientists.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with open-source databases and AWS integration patterns.


• Background in scientific or research computing environments.
