Job Description
Psychology Today is launching a new video-first weekly interview podcast and looking for a producer to own the full technical pipeline and support light editorial prep. This is an opportunity to shape the identity and visual language of a new interview franchise on a major psychology and mental health platform.
The show will launch into Psychology Today’s substantial existing online audience across YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, as well as on major podcast platforms. We’re looking for someone who is excited to help shape smart, accessible content featuring leading voices in psychology, science and the culture at large.
- Recommend and help implement the show’s production stack, including recording (Riverside or comparable platform), cameras, microphones, lighting, editing workflow, and publishing tools
- Record and edit weekly video episodes: pacing, cuts, audio cleanup, supers/lower-thirds, and occasional on-screen graphics.
- Manage the podcast’s hosting and distribution workflow, including RSS distribution to major podcast platforms.
- Write show notes/episode descriptions.
- Maintain a polished, consistent visual and audio style across episodes.
- Create YouTube thumbnails for each episode using established show branding/templates.
- Create approximately 3–4 compelling short-form clips from each episode and adapt them for social distribution in both horizontal and vertical formats, with captions, graphics, and platform-appropriate framing for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts, and other relevant channels.
- Support light editorial preparation as needed, such as guest research, background materials, and production-related interview prep, without owning overall editorial direction.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and continuously improve the show’s production process as it develops.
What we're looking for:
- Strong, demonstrated technical/video-editing skills.
- Comfort with graphics, supers, lower-thirds, captions, and thumbnail creation.
- Experience publishing across podcast/video platforms and producing social-ready clips.
- Familiarity with tools such as Riverside, Premiere Pro, Descript, or comparable professional production software.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently manage a recurring weekly production cycle.
- Good editorial instincts and attention to pacing, clarity, and audience experience.
To apply: Please include links or clips of your published work, e,g, episodes you've edited, produced, or published. Ideally include before/after footage to show scope of work. Please also tell us about a podcast or video interview series whose production you admire and what you think makes it work.
Compensation: Contract, monthly retainer, $2000–$3,000/month, based on experience and scope.
