Quick Overview
Job Description
AccuWeather is seeking its first dedicated Chief People Officer to serve as a senior executive partner to CEO and the broader leadership team. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role created to elevate AccuWeather’s HR function from capable execution to genuine strategic leadership. The CPO will inherit a small but functional HR team and will be expected to build the infrastructure, programs, and culture strategy that will define AccuWeather’s workforce for its next chapter. Given the pace of organizational change anticipated over the next 12–18 months — including AI-driven restructuring, evolving skill requirements, and significant workforce transitions — the CPO will play a pivotal role in shaping how AccuWeather communicates, grows, and evolves as an employer.
The position is located on-site at AccuWeather's Headquarters in State College, PA
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team on all aspects of human capital strategy, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and workforce planning.
- Develop and execute an enterprise-wide people strategy that aligns with AccuWeather's business objectives, technology investments, and long-term growth plans.
- Lead organizational design, change management, and workforce transformation initiatives that position the company to successfully navigate evolving business priorities and emerging technologies.
- Design and implement scalable people programs and organizational frameworks across talent acquisition, total rewards, employee relations, learning and development, organizational design, and performance management.
- Champion and strengthen AccuWeather's culture of innovation, accountability, transparency, and continuous learning while fostering employee engagement and organizational effectiveness. Partner with executive and functional leaders to anticipate future talent needs, assess organizational capabilities, and develop workforce strategies that support business objectives.
- Build, mentor, and develop the HR organization, strengthening its capabilities and positioning the function as a trusted strategic partner across the enterprise
- Serve as a visible, approachable leader across the organization, building trust and credibility with employees, managers, and senior leadership while representing the people function with confidence before the executive team and Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal Candidate Profile is a senior HR executive who combines strategic vision with hands-on execution capability. The right candidate will be energized — not deterred — by an environment that is rapidly evolving, technically demanding, and operationally intense.
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership, with at least 3–5 years in a CHRO, CPO, or equivalent executive role
- Proven track record building HR functions within technology, science, data, or engineering-led organizations
- Deep expertise in organizational design, change management, and workforce transformation
- Exceptional executive presence and communication skills — able to engage confidently at the board level, in all-hands settings, and one-on-one with employees
- Technically curious and AI-literate; ability to model the mindset AccuWeather expects of all its leaders
- A genuine business partner orientation — someone who understands the business deeply, not just HR process
- Comfort and experience in 24/7 or operationally complex environments
- Strong stakeholder management skills; ability to build trust and alignment across diverse leadership styles
- Self-starter with high initiative — someone who sees the gap and builds toward it without being directed
