Job Description
Senior Director of Finance & Accounting
Senior Director of Finance & Accounting
Hopedale Medical Complex | Hopedale, Illinois
On-site | Full-Time | Salary $115,000-$130,000
Lead with expertise. Solve complex financial challenges. Make a meaningful impact in rural healthcare. Hopedale Medical Complex (HMC) is seeking an experienced, highly analytical
Senior Director of Finance & Accounting to provide advanced financial expertise and hands-on leadership across our organization.
This is an opportunity for a healthcare finance professional who enjoys getting into the details, investigating complex financial questions, improving processes, and translating financial information into meaningful decisions. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable advising senior leadership and digging into general ledger detail to understand why the numbers don't reconcile.
About the Opportunity
As a Critical Access Hospital and healthcare organization, Hopedale Medical Complex operates in a financial environment that requires sound judgment, technical expertise, and a thorough understanding of healthcare reimbursement. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director of Finance & Accounting will serve as HMC's senior technical financial leader, with a particular focus on complex accounting matters, financial-data integrity, reimbursement analysis, and financial problem resolution.
Rather than focusing solely on high-level financial oversight, the Senior Director will take an active role in researching financial issues, validating information, identifying root causes, and implementing sustainable solutions.
What You'll Do
Lead Complex Financial Analysis and Problem Resolution
Independently investigate complex financial discrepancies, unusual account balances, reporting inconsistencies, and historical accounting issues. Analyze general ledger activity, reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting documentation to identify root causes and determine appropriate corrective actions. Work directly with financial systems, reports, and underlying transactional data to validate financial information.
Develop practical solutions to improve financial accuracy, reporting reliability, and operational efficiency. Partner with the Finance team to resolve significant issues and establish controls that prevent recurrence. Provide Advanced Healthcare Financial Expertise
Serve as a technical resource on healthcare accounting, Critical Access Hospital reimbursement, and Medicare cost-reporting matters. Evaluate complex reimbursement issues, financial trends, and opportunities affecting organizational performance.
Support Medicare cost-report accuracy through technical analysis, review, and collaboration with internal staff and external specialists. Partner with Revenue Cycle leadership to analyze reimbursement performance, accounts receivable trends, and other financial issues. Provide advanced analysis supporting cash management, financial forecasting, and organizational liquidity. Support Strategic Financial Decision-Making
Provide financial insight and recommendations to executive leadership and Governing Board.
Evaluate financial risks, emerging trends, and opportunities for organizational improvement. Lead or support financial feasibility studies for new services, capital investments, and major organizational initiatives. Review complex financial assumptions and analyses supporting budgets, forecasts, and long-term planning. Translate detailed financial findings into clear, actionable recommendations. Strengthen Financial Processes and Controls
Identify weaknesses in financial reporting, accounting processes, reconciliations, and internal controls.
Develop and implement improvements that strengthen the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of financial information. Collaborate with the Controller to establish clear expectations for issue resolution, documentation, review, and accountability. Provide technical guidance and leadership to the Finance and Accounting team. Promote a culture of accuracy, collaboration, continuous improvement, and financial accountability. What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
Progressive experience in healthcare accounting, finance, or financial management. Strong technical knowledge of financial statements, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial analysis, and internal controls. Demonstrated experience independently investigating and resolving complex financial discrepancies. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work directly with detailed financial data. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial information systems.
Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, department leaders, and accounting professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA, CMA, MBA, MHA, or other relevant advanced degree or professional certification. Experience in a Critical Access Hospital, rural hospital, or comparable healthcare environment. Working knowledge of Medicare cost reporting, cost-based reimbursement, and healthcare reimbursement methodologies. Experience with cash-flow forecasting, financial modeling, audit support, and complex accounting corrections. Experience leading financial process improvements and strengthening internal controls. Experience with Multiview, CPSI/Trubridge or similar systems is a plus.
The Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is a finance leader who:
Enjoys solving difficult financial problems and understanding the details behind the numbers. Takes ownership of complex issues and follows them through to resolution. Can move comfortably between strategic conversations and hands-on financial analysis. Brings curiosity, sound judgment, persistence, and strong technical accounting skills. Knows how to collaborate with an established Finance team while providing advanced expertise and leadership. Understands the unique financial considerations of a rural healthcare organization.
Values accurate financial information as the foundation for effective organizational decisions. This is not a role for someone who wants to manage financial reporting exclusively from a distance. We are seeking a leader who is willing and able to work directly within the data, ask difficult questions, and help build lasting solutions. Why Hopedale Medical Complex? At Hopedale Medical Complex, your work can have a direct impact on the financial strength and sustainability of healthcare services in a rural community.
This role offers the opportunity to apply advanced financial expertise in a collaborative environment, work closely with organizational leadership, and make meaningful improvements that support patient care and long-term organizational success. Ready to put your financial expertise to work where it matters? We encourage qualified healthcare finance professionals who enjoy hands-on problem-solving, technical analysis, and organizational improvement to apply. Hopedale Medical Complex is an
Equal Opportunity Employer.
