Principal Statistician

Principal Biostatistician Global CRO | Dedicated FSP Partnership | Permanent | Remote - UK & Across Europe

A leading global CRO is looking to appoint an experienced Principal Biostatistician to join a dedicated Functional Service Provider (FSP) team supporting a portfolio of real-world evidence (RWE), pharmacoepidemiology, outcomes research, and non-interventional studies.

This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects that generate evidence to inform healthcare decision-making, leveraging a range of real-world data sources including electronic health records (EHR), claims databases, patient registries, and other observational datasets.

As a senior member of the team, you will provide statistical leadership across a diverse portfolio of studies, collaborating closely with clients, scientific experts, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust and impactful research.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the statistical design, analysis, and interpretation of real-world evidence, pharmacoepidemiology, and non-interventional research studies.
• Develop, review, and contribute to study protocols, Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs), and study reports.
• Design and execute analyses using a variety of real-world data sources, including EHRs, healthcare claims databases, and registries.
• Apply advanced pharmacoepidemiological methodologies to support safety evaluations and comparative effectiveness research.
• Act as a statistical subject matter expert, providing scientific guidance to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality study delivery and scientific excellence.

Candidate Profile

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong background in biostatistics and observational research, together with a passion for generating meaningful evidence from real-world data.

Essential Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Minimum 9 years of biostatistics experience with an MSc, or 7 years with a PhD .
• Extensive experience within real-world evidence, pharmacoepidemiology, and non-interventional research.
• Proven expertise working with observational healthcare data, including EHRs, claims databases, and patient registries.
• Strong programming capability in R (essential).
• Experience authoring and reviewing study protocols and Statistical Analysis Plans.
• Comprehensive understanding of the biases and limitations associated with claims data, particularly US healthcare claims, and EHR-based analyses.
• Practical experience with observational study designs including cohort studies, self-controlled study designs, and target trial emulation.
• Knowledge of advanced analytical methodologies such as propensity score techniques, clone-censor-weighting approaches, and time-to-event analyses.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience within vaccines and/or infectious disease research would be highly advantageous.
