Job Description

About This Role

A leading automotive manufacturer is seeking a Digital Engineering (DE) Engineer to support Powertrain Unit projects at its Georgetown, KY facility, with a strong focus on production preparation for internal combustion engines, hybrid transmissions, axles, and other powertrain components. Using Autodesk CAD tools across 2D and 3D, you will create and revise product operation drawings and production line layouts; perform 3D model comparisons and overlays; produce renderings and evaluations; run production line simulations; and evaluate point cloud scan data, improving the completeness and quality of process and equipment planning to reduce manufacturing cost and production-preparation lead time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Digital Engineering (DE) support for Powertrain Unit projects — production preparation for engines, hybrid transmissions, axles, and other powertrain components
  • Create and revise product operation drawings in AutoCAD, working directly with the Production Engineering team
  • Create and maintain production line layouts in AutoCAD, including detailed equipment and utility installation drawings
  • Perform product 3D model comparisons and overlays in Inventor, Catia, or other 3D software
  • Produce 3D renderings and evaluations of building and equipment models for project studies using Navisworks, Revit, and other packages
  • Run production line simulations to confirm line capacity and identify process improvements
  • Collect and evaluate point cloud scan data to support project studies
  • Investigate new tools to improve Production Engineering job accuracy and efficiency
  • Support DE efforts from concept/feasibility planning through manufacturing-site process and equipment validation

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering (preferred), a Technical Degree in CAE, or 3+ years of CAE experience
  • Experience in project management (planning & time management, coordination, reporting)
  • Experience creating/interpreting product, process, and equipment drawings and models
  • Intermediate-to-advanced (expert) capability in Autodesk applications — AutoCAD Architecture, Inventor Professional, Vault, Revit, ReCap, Navisworks
  • Recent experience in 2D and 3D tools
  • Intermediate capability in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Preferred: Creo plus point cloud utilization; automotive powertrain assembly/machining; high-volume automated production; manufacturing equipment & process specification

Required Skills

  • 2D and 3D digital engineering: drafting, modeling, and design
  • Creating and interpreting product, process, and equipment drawings and models
  • Production line layout design and maintenance, including equipment and utility installation drawings
  • 3D model comparison, overlay, and design evaluation
  • 3D rendering and evaluation of building and equipment models for project studies
  • Production line simulation and capacity / process-improvement analysis
  • Point cloud scan data collection and evaluation
  • Project management: planning, coordination, scheduling, and reporting
  • Technical communication and presentation (written and verbal)
  • *Software / platforms:* Autodesk suite (AutoCAD Architecture, Inventor Professional, Navisworks, Revit, Vault, ReCap), Catia, Creo; Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
