Permanent Night Shift

We are looking for a skilled Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join an established engineering team within a busy manufacturing environment in Plymouth.

This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer with strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills, who enjoys solving technical problems and keeping production equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Working across a variety of production machinery, automated equipment and associated manufacturing systems, you will play an important role in minimising downtime, improving equipment reliability and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive engineer looking to develop their technical expertise and potentially progress into a future leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

·Respond to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults and carrying out effective, long-term repairs to minimise production downtime.

·Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to ensure machinery and equipment remain safe, reliable and efficient.

·Undertake electrical fault-finding across manufacturing machinery, drives, safety circuits and associated equipment.

·Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults.

·Support maintenance activities across a variety of production machinery, automated equipment and site services.

·Identify recurring faults and contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

·Accurately record maintenance activities, faults, repairs and parts used within a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).

·Support the installation, commissioning and testing of new equipment.

·Work closely with Production, Quality and Engineering colleagues to maintain operational performance and product quality.

·Follow all health and safety procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.

·Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.

·Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues where required.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

·ONC, NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent engineering qualification.

·Completion of a recognised apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.

·Experience in a manufacturing, production, processing or similar industrial environment.

·Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

·Good mechanical maintenance and problem-solving ability.

·Experience working with pneumatics, hydraulics and variable speed drives.

·Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding, equipment repairs and accurate maintenance record-keeping.

·Understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.

·A structured approach to troubleshooting, with the ability to identify root causes and implement lasting solutions.

Desirable:

·Experience maintaining automated production equipment or other complex manufacturing systems.

·Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies, such as Lean, TPM or RCM.

·Familiarity with root cause analysis tools, including 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams.

·Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning or acceptance testing.

·A full UK driving licence.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be a practical, hands-on engineer who takes pride in maintaining equipment to a high standard. You will be comfortable working independently, responding calmly to breakdowns and prioritising tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are important, as you will work closely with colleagues across engineering and production. You will also be keen to identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime and develop your technical knowledge.

What's on Offer?

·A permanent night-shift opportunity within an established manufacturing engineering team.

·A varied role covering electrical, mechanical and automated equipment.

·The opportunity to contribute to ongoing reliability and continuous improvement projects.

·Scope to develop your technical skills and progress towards future engineering leadership opportunities.

If you are a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer looking for your next opportunity in Plymouth and are interested in working nights, we would be keen to hear from you.
