Data Center Technician L1
2 Month W2 Contract (No C2C/No Visa Sponsorship)
Onsite in Manassas, VA [10051]
Pay up to $30/hr. (No Paid Holidays and No PTO)
Start – ASAP – Targeting 9/21

Shift - Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm EST

The Data Center Technician I (L1) is responsible for supporting the physical deployment of IT infrastructure within the data center environment. This role focuses on hardware receiving, unboxing, staging, rack installation, cabling, and basic deployment activities while maintaining operational standards, documentation accuracy, and workplace safety. The technician will work closely with senior Data Center Technicians (L2/L3) and project teams to ensure equipment is deployed efficiently and according to established procedures.

Key Responsibilities
Hardware Deployment & Installation

  • Receive, unbox, inspect, and inventory servers, network equipment, storage devices, and related hardware.
  • Stage equipment for deployment according to engineering and project requirements.
  • Rack and mount servers, switches, and supporting infrastructure following documented standards.
  • Assist with equipment labeling and asset tracking.

Cabling & Connectivity
  • Install, route, dress, and label network, power, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Ensure cable management practices meet data center standards and maintain a clean environment.
  • Verify cable connectivity and report discrepancies to senior technical staff.

Data Center Operations Support
  • Perform physical deployment activities for new infrastructure installations.
  • Support hardware moves, adds, and changes within the facility.
  • Maintain accurate deployment records, rack elevations, and inventory updates.
  • Follow established procedures for handling sensitive equipment and ESD requirements.

Documentation & Compliance
  • Document completed work and update ticketing systems as required.
  • Adhere to data center safety policies, security procedures, and operational standards.
  • Escalate issues, discrepancies, or risks to L2/L3 technicians and management.

Scope of Role
The L1 Technician primarily supports physical deployment and infrastructure preparation activities, including:
  • Unboxing and staging equipment
  • Racking and mounting servers
  • Power, network, and fiber cabling
  • Asset tracking and labeling
  • Basic operational support within the data center

Most break/fix activities, hardware troubleshooting, initialization, diagnostics, and higher-level technical work will be performed by existing L2 and L3 onsite staff.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a data center, IT operations, warehouse, logistics, or technical environment.
  • Ability to safely lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and data center environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow documented procedures and work instructions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with server installation, cabling, or structured cabling systems.
  • Familiarity with data center best practices and rack layouts.
  • Experience using ticketing systems or asset management tools.
  • CompTIA A+, Server+, or similar entry-level technical certifications.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and install equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

The estimated pay range for this position is USD $25.00/Hr. - USD $30.00/Hr.
