Lead SDET Engineer – Java | Trade Processing

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with strong Java expertise to drive quality engineering for RMS Trade Processing, a strategic platform serving as the primary system of record for financial products across the Bank.

With a focus on complex OTC derivatives, RMS supports the full trade lifecycle, including booking, enrichment, amendments, allocations, lifecycle events, clearing, settlement, and downstream risk reporting. The platform ensures consistent and reliable trade representation across front, middle, and back office systems.

As RMS expands its coverage of commodity products and trading flows, you will lead the development of scalable automation solutions for a business-critical trading platform. You will work with a technology stack comprising Java, Spring, Kafka, Oracle Database, and React, with opportunities to test both backend services and frontend applications.

Key responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks using Java and Cucumber.
2. Define and implement quality engineering strategies across the software development lifecycle.
3. Develop automated functional, integration, regression, API, UI, and end-to-end test suites.
4. Validate trade processing workflows, data integrity, and integrations across upstream and downstream systems.
5. Use SQL to verify Oracle database records, data transformations, and processing outcomes.
6. Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate requirements into comprehensive test coverage.
7. Drive improvements in testing processes, tools, environments, and quality standards.
8. Create and maintain documentation covering test strategies, automation frameworks, testing standards, and operational procedures.

Required skills and experience

1. At least 8 years of hands-on experience developing automated test solutions using Java.
2. Strong experience with Cucumber and enterprise-scale test automation frameworks.
3. Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software engineering principles, and design patterns.
4. Experience testing Java and Spring-based applications, backend services, and APIs.
5. Strong SQL skills and practical experience testing Oracle databases.
6. Ability to define comprehensive test strategies covering functional and non-functional requirements.
7. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to lead quality engineering initiatives.

Desirable experience

1. Knowledge of capital markets, OTC derivatives, commodities, or trade lifecycle processing.
2. Experience testing Kafka-based messaging and event-driven systems.
3. Experience automating UI tests for React applications.
4. Familiarity with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
