Business Development Manager (Ocean)

Location: Tamworth
Salary: up to 70,000 basic + car allowance + commission
Summary:
We are seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to grow the ocean freight business of this well-established freight forwarder. A hybrid role with offices in Tamworth, this position is ideal for a proactive new-business hunter with freight forwarding sales experience, an established customer network and a consultative approach.
You will focus on winning new containerised and less-than-container-load (LCL) business across key trade lanes, including China and India imports into the UK and UK exports to the USA.
Key Responsibilities:

• Identify, target and win new ocean freight customers, building a strong pipeline of commercial opportunities.
• Develop business across China-UK and India-UK import lanes and UK-USA export lanes.
• Use your customer network and trade lane knowledge to identify opportunities for containerised and LCL freight.
• Independently source leads and secure high-impact customer meetings.
• Understand customer requirements and present consultative, value-driven freight solutions.
• Build relationships with decision-makers at all organisational levels and achieve individual sales objectives.

Experience:

• Proven commercial or sales experience in freight forwarding, with a strong emphasis on ocean freight.
• A track record of building a sales pipeline and an active customer network across relevant China-UK, India-UK or UK-USA trade lanes.
• A hunter mindset, with the ability to generate leads independently, win customer meetings and meet sales objectives.
• Excellent listening, communication and influencing skills, with a consultative approach to building customer relationships.
• Resilience under pressure, a methodical approach to problem solving and a commitment to continuous improvement.
