The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Software Systems Engineer to support a range of software-intensive and mission-critical engineering projects within a technically complex environment.
This is a Systems Engineering position focused on system architecture, requirements management, integration, verification and validation rather than software development. You will help define and manage software-enabled system capabilities, working across the engineering lifecycle to deliver safe, reliable solutions that meet operational and customer requirements.
Working within an integrated project team, you will collaborate with engineers, customers and suppliers to develop technical solutions and support their delivery from initial requirements through to integration, testing and through-life support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, integration, testing and through-life support of software-enabled systems.
- Develop and manage system requirements, architectures and interface definitions.
- Maintain requirements traceability from initial capture through to verification and validation.
- Plan, execute and document system-level testing activities.
- Produce and maintain technical specifications, test procedures, reports and other engineering documentation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, customers and suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
- Contribute to technical reviews, project meetings and integrated engineering delivery activities.
- Apply engineering best practice, lifecycle processes and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Promote safety, quality and continuous improvement across engineering activities.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to the development of team capability.
- Deliver work to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards.
- Undertake occasional UK and overseas travel as required.
You will have a strong Systems Engineering background, with experience supporting the design and delivery of complex, software-intensive systems. You will be comfortable working across system architecture, requirements, interfaces, integration and verification, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You will ideally bring:
- A degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electronics, Physics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in Systems Engineering, including system design, integration, verification and validation.
- An understanding of software-intensive systems, software lifecycles, architecture principles and configuration management.
- Experience developing system requirements and maintaining traceability through to testing and verification.
- The ability to develop, execute and document system-level test activities.
- Knowledge of open architectures, modular system design and system interfaces.
- Experience working with customers, stakeholders and suppliers to deliver technical solutions.
- Professional registration such as CEng or IEng, or a postgraduate qualification such as an MEng or MSc.
- Experience in aerospace, defence or other regulated engineering environments.
- Knowledge of airworthiness regulations or safety-critical software standards such as DO-178C.
- Experience with mission systems or an understanding of RF, radar, communications or electronic warfare systems.
- Pension contributions matched up to 12%.
- Bonus incentives.
- Discounted private medical insurance.
- Electric car scheme.
- Technology vouchers.
- Wellbeing programmes.
- Further employee benefits.
