Job Description

UQ Materials Performance Full-time (100%), fixed term position through to October 2027. Base salary will be in the range $97,268 - $104,348 + 17% super (HEW Level 6). Based at our picturesque and conveniently located St Lucia campus.

About This Opportunity

The Senior Engineering Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting UQ Materials Performance, one of Australia's leading consultancies in materials engineering and science. Working within a collaborative, high performing and technically diverse team, you will provide specialist laboratory expertise, deliver consulting projects for industry clients, and contribute to meaningful outcomes through advanced materials characterisation, failure investigations and engineering analysis. This is a highly varied opportunity to work with sophisticated research equipment in a fast paced consulting environment where you will be challenged, inspired and supported to continue developing your technical expertise.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing specialist laboratory support and expert advice on laboratory methods, equipment operation, quality assurance processes, risk management and waste management practices.
  • Delivering consulting and research projects, including client engagement, project scoping, data collection, technical analysis, interpretation and report preparation.
  • Performing advanced metallurgical and mechanical engineering investigations using techniques such as metallography, SEM-EDS, dynamic mechanical testing and specialised sample preparation.
  • Preparing project proposals, quotations, contracts, reports, graphs and presentations, while contributing to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining high standards of occupational health and safety, laboratory systems, equipment records, inventories, inductions and compliance activities.
About You
  • Essential: Completion of a bachelor's degree in materials engineering, mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Essential: Demonstrated laboratory knowledge and hands on experience using engineering equipment including load testing, metallography, scanning electron microscopy and related testing techniques.
  • Essential: Experience working within an engineering consultancy, engineering services environment or multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Essential: Strong technical capabilities in materials engineering, metallurgical engineering and/or mechanical engineering, with the ability to analyse and interpret technical data.
  • Essential: Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to the successful delivery of multiple projects.
  • Desirable: Forklift and doggers licence is desirable.
