Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior DB2 Database Administrator to manage, configure, maintain, and optimize IBM DB2 databases supporting a mission-critical Motor Vehicle Information System. This role is responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, data integrity, security, and supporting ongoing application enhancements, fixes, and modernization initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with IBM DB2, database administration, SQL optimization, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and high-availability technologies in large transactional environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, configure, and maintain IBM DB2 databases running on mainframe platforms
- Perform database installation, upgrades, patches, migrations, and version management
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot system issues
- Tune DB2 components to ensure high availability and optimal performance
- Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Support the application team by optimizing database queries, stored procedures, packages, and triggers
- Work closely with developers to integrate application enhancements, fixes, and new functionality
- Ensure application releases and database model changes remain synchronized across environments
- Maintain data integrity through data validation, referential integrity, and error-handling practices
- Enforce database security standards, user access controls, and audit requirements
- Support compliance with privacy and data protection requirements
- Use DB2 monitoring tools to proactively identify performance bottlenecks
- Analyze SQL performance and query execution plans
- Tune databases, memory pools, indexes, and storage structures to improve system throughput
- Support ongoing application fixes, enhancements, and modernization initiatives
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on server performance, storage, and network connectivity
- Implement schema modifications, table restructuring, indexing strategies, and partitioning
- Provide technical support to agencies, personnel, and stakeholders
- Coordinate activities with application developers as required
- Identify and implement database best practices and standards
- Support applications requiring integration with enterprise systems
- Interact with executive-level business users and technical teams
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for DB2 database administration
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\''s degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 15+ years of hands-on experience with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS)
- 16+ years of database design, documentation, and coding experience
- 16+ years of SQL experience
- 16+ years of designing and implementing reports and report interfaces
- Expertise in database design, data modeling, schema management, and SQL optimization
- Experience with high availability technologies including HADR, replication, failover, and clustering
- Experience supporting complex, high-volume transactional systems
- Knowledge of ETL processes, Data Mining, Data Storage, and Data Warehousing
- Knowledge of IBM batch jobs and integration with enterprise applications
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and performance tuning skills
- Experience implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Experience managing database security, user access controls, and auditing
- Experience tuning databases, indexes, memory pools, and storage structures
- Ability to support enterprise database modernization initiatives
