Eataly’s on-site cooking school, La Scuola, is a place where people can learn about and experience Italian cuisine through unique cooking classes and private events. The Culinary Instructor supports programming in La Scuola by teaching cooking classes, preparing and executing menu items, and assisting with private and public events.

Reports to the La Scuola Sous Chef. Works closely with the Education & Events Team and La Scuola kitchen staff to support classes and events.

  • Teaches a variety of demonstration and hands-on cooking classes for private and public groups

  • Assists with breakfasts, lunches and dinners including 3-4 course menus, family-style menus, cocktail-style receptions and buffet-style receptions

  • Prepares, demonstrates and executes menu items for La Scuola classes and events; most items are savory, but occasionally sweet items may need to be executed

  • Assists with the production and preparation of food items for classes and events in collaboration with back-of-the-house personnel

  • Prepares and portions meats, vegetables, desserts and other menu items as needed

  • Assists with utilizing food surpluses appropriately to help control food costs

  • Supports the training and direction of prep cooks and line cooks during classes and events as needed

  • Maintains health, food safety and quality standards throughout food preparation, cooking and service

  • Maintains kitchen mise-en-place for assigned stations and ensures the La Scuola kitchen remains clean and organized

  • Communicates menu changes, specials, shortages, allergies and dietary restrictions to front-of-house personnel and the La Scuola Sous Chef

  • Assists with event preparation and menu execution in collaboration with the Education & Events Team and La Scuola Sous Chef

  • Assists with preparing ingredients, kitchen supplies and equipment needed for classes and events

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

  • 2+ years of cooking experience, 
  • Working knowledge of kitchen equipment, food production procedures, and safety and sanitation regulations
  • Excellent communication skills and enjoyment of speaking in front of large groups
  • In-depth knowledge of Italian cuisine and culture
  • Italian language skills highly preferred

Job Requirements

  • Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule often including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours, including standing, walking, bending and squatting
  • Ability to use knives, hand tools and standard commercial kitchen equipment
  • Food Handler’s License

Compensation: Pay range is set at $20-$22/hr
