Staff AI Engineer Enterprise AI

Melbourne Full Time Hybrid

We're looking for a Staff AI Engineer to join our client's central Enterprise Technology team and help build and scale AI capabilities across the organisation.

This is a hands on senior engineering role focused on taking Agentic AI and Generative AI solutions into production, while providing technical leadership around architecture, engineering standards and responsible AI adoption.

What you'll be doing

• Design and build production grade GenAI and agentic AI applications and platforms.
• Lead technical design across LLM applications, AI agents, RAG, APIs and enterprise integrations.
• Build reusable AI services, frameworks and tooling that can be adopted across engineering teams.
• Work across AWS and Databricks environments to deliver scalable enterprise AI solutions.
• Establish strong engineering practices around evaluation, observability, security, governance and cost optimisation.
• Provide technical leadership while remaining highly hands on with architecture and code.
• Partner with software, cloud, security and data teams to move AI use cases from prototype through to production.

What we're looking for

• Staff, Principal or strong Senior level background in Software Engineering or AI Engineering.
• Strong hands on experience building GenAI, LLM or agentic AI systems in production.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, ideally with Python and modern cloud architecture.
• Experience with AWS and enterprise cloud environments.
• Exposure to Databricks or modern data/ML platforms.
• Experience integrating AI into existing enterprise systems, APIs and workflows.
• Understanding of production AI concerns including LLM evaluation, guardrails, observability, security and governance.
• Data Science or ML experience is beneficial, but this role is primarily focused on AI and software engineering.
