This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Java Developer based in Canada.

Join a technology team responsible for evolving a mission-critical core banking system within the financial services sector.
In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize backend applications supporting essential banking functions, including accounts, lending, and customer management.
You will work with modern Java technologies, building scalable services and reliable integrations in a microservices architecture.
Your contributions will help maintain high standards of performance, security, and software quality across critical systems.
Working in an agile environment aligned with SAFe principles, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams.
This opportunity offers the chance to tackle complex technical challenges while contributing to the continuous improvement of core financial applications.

Accountabilities

    As a Senior Java Developer, you will contribute to the development and long-term evolution of core banking applications. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Developing and optimizing core banking system functionalities, particularly across accounts, lending, and customer-related services.

    • Designing and implementing backend features using Java EE/JEE, Spring Boot, microservices, and REST web services.

    • Maintaining, extending, and continuously improving existing software components.

    • Ensuring high software quality through automated testing, code reviews, and comprehensive technical documentation.

    • Investigating technical issues, identifying root causes, and implementing sustainable solutions.

    • Contributing to the analysis and design of new business and technical requirements.

    • Collaborating with cross-functional development teams in an agile environment based on SAFe principles.

      • Requirements

      The ideal candidate combines strong Java backend development expertise with analytical thinking, a structured approach, and a commitment to delivering reliable software. The following qualifications and skills are expected:

      • A degree in Computer Science from a university, university of applied sciences, or equivalent professional training.

      • Several years of professional experience in Java backend development, ideally within banking or financial services.

      • Strong knowledge of Java EE/JEE, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and REST APIs.

      • Hands-on experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes; OpenShift experience is an advantage.

      • Excellent knowledge of relational databases and SQL, preferably Oracle and PL/SQL.

      • Practical experience developing and executing automated software tests.

      • Familiarity with agile development methodologies, ideally Scrum or SAFe.

      • Strong analytical, structured, and solution-oriented working skills, with a high level of attention to quality.

      • Initiative, adaptability, a proactive mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.

      • A clean professional background, with no debt enforcement proceedings or criminal record entries.

      • Very good command of both German and English.
