Symmetrio is recruiting for our client, an innovative healthcare technology organization dedicated to improving patient outcomes through advanced clinical data and technology solutions. We are seeking an experienced Lead Integration Engineer to oversee the design, development, and support of complex healthcare data integrations while providing technical leadership to a team of integration professionals.
This is a highly visible role that combines hands-on engineering responsibilities with team leadership, driving interoperability initiatives across healthcare systems and ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable data exchange. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in healthcare integration technologies, interoperability standards, and interface engine development, along with a passion for mentoring teams and improving operational excellence.
Target compensation is $125-160k with health benefits, 401k and bonus.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis, design, development, deployment, and support of healthcare data integrations with EMRs and third-party systems
- Serve as the technical lead and escalation point for interface architecture, production issues, and integration strategy
- Design, build, and maintain integration workflows using healthcare interoperability standards and integration platforms
- Develop and support data exchange solutions utilizing HL7, FHIR, RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and related technologies
- Translate business and clinical requirements into scalable, reliable integration solutions
- Perform ETL activities, data transformations, and complex healthcare data mappings
- Troubleshoot and resolve interface issues to maintain system performance, stability, and data integrity
- Monitor integration environments and proactively identify opportunities for optimization and improvement
- Ensure compliance with healthcare security, privacy, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with Product, Development, QA, DevOps, Support, and external partners to deliver integration initiatives
- Provide technical mentorship, code reviews, and guidance to integration engineering team members
- Support Agile development practices, project planning, and prioritization efforts
- Participate in implementation, testing, validation, deployment, and post-production support activities
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for integrations, workflows, troubleshooting, and operational processes
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience developing and supporting healthcare data integrations or interface solutions
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical guidance to engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of HL7 v2 messaging standards, including ADT, ORM, ORU, and SIU message types
- Experience working with FHIR standards and healthcare interoperability frameworks
- Hands-on experience with integration engines such as Mirth Connect, Iguana, or similar platforms
- Strong proficiency with RESTful APIs and healthcare data exchange methodologies
- Experience developing scripts and integrations using JavaScript or similar scripting languages
- Working knowledge of Linux/UNIX and Windows environments
- Familiarity with EMR systems, healthcare data structures, and clinical workflows
- Understanding of HIPAA requirements and healthcare data security best practices
- Knowledge of cloud-based integration concepts and modern interoperability architectures
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting integrations within oncology, laboratory, or other clinical specialties
- Experience designing and optimizing large-scale healthcare data workflows
- Technical leadership experience managing integration projects from planning through deployment
- Experience improving monitoring, scalability, and performance of enterprise integration environments
