We're looking for a Utilities Designer to join our growing infrastructure team and contribute to the planning, design and coordination of utility services across a diverse portfolio of projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary specialists and play a key role in delivering innovative, sustainable and high-quality utility solutions.
The OpportunityAs a Utilities Designer, you will support the delivery of utility and civil infrastructure design solutions across transport, water, energy, defence, urban development and major infrastructure projects. You'll work closely with engineers, project managers and digital engineering teams to develop utility investigations, design documentation, service relocations and protection strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
What You'll DoKey responsibilities include:
- Preparing utility designs, drawings and models for:
- Water and sewer services
- Stormwater drainage systems
- Gas networks
- Electrical distribution systems
- Telecommunications infrastructure
- Recycled water and other utility services
- Developing concept, preliminary and detailed design documentation
- Conducting utility investigations and interpreting survey and service information
- Assisting with utility relocation, adjustment and protection designs
- Producing utility layouts, service coordination plans and clash detection assessments
- Supporting design reviews and incorporating client and stakeholder feedback
- Coordinating activities with engineers, designers, drafters and external stakeholders
- Preparing technical reports, design calculations and project documentation
- Participating in utility coordination meetings and technical workshops
- Supporting project delivery to scope, schedule and budget requirements
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, authority requirements and project specifications
We're looking for someone who brings a combination of technical expertise, collaboration and a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Essential Experience in utilities design within engineering consulting, infrastructure or construction environments
- Proficiency with: AutoCAD and Microstation, ideally also Civil 3D
- Knowledge of utility authority standards and requirements
- Strong understanding of utility coordination and clash management
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, survey information and utility records
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Desirable Experience delivering major transport, defence, water or urban infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of BIM workflows and digital engineering practices
- Experience using GIS platforms and utility management systems
- Understanding of Austroads and applicable Australian Standards
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams
