This role leads writing for advertising, product messaging, taglines, campaigns, marketing materials, speeches, presentations, and internal communications.
The Senior Marketing Writer combines strong storytelling and copywriting skills with the ability to understand complex technical and business topics. Working closely with other marketing team members, product marketing, business units, executives, engineers, and other subject matter experts, this role turns business priorities and technical information into clear, memorable messages for specific audiences and channels.
This role builds on the Writer position through greater ownership of messaging, creative direction, and high-visibility assignments. It also provides editorial guidance to other writers and helps maintain a distinctive, consistent NOV voice across marketing and communications materials.
- Develop original copy and messaging for advertisements, campaigns, product and service marketing, taglines, headlines, brochures, web pages, presentations, speeches, talking points, internal emails, and other communications materials.
- Shape product and brand messages that clearly communicate NOV’s value, differentiators, expertise, and relevance to customers and other audiences.
- Generate creative concepts, story angles, headlines, and language that support campaign goals and work across print, digital, social, event, and internal channels.
- Adapt core messages for different audiences, channels, and stages of the customer or employee journey.
- Partner with designers, brand and product marketing teams, business units, and other communications colleagues to develop integrated materials from concept through final delivery.
- Work with executives, engineers, product leaders, sales teams, and subject matter experts to gather information and turn technical or business topics into compelling, audience-focused stories.
- Draft and refine speeches, presentations, talking points, leadership messages, employee announcements, and other executive or internal communications.
- Lead complex writing assignments from brief and concept through stakeholder review, approval, and delivery.
- Present creative approaches and explain how messaging supports the audience, objective, and broader NOV brand.
- Edit and provide constructive feedback on writing assignments to strengthen clarity, originality, accuracy, tone, and consistency.
- Ensure content follows NOV Voice, brand standards, AP style, SPE style where applicable, and the needs of each channel and audience.
- Coordinate reviews with subject matter experts, business units, brand, legal, investor relations, HSE, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Use AI-assisted writing tools responsibly for ideation, research support, drafting, and editing while protecting confidentiality and ensuring accuracy, originality, and appropriate review.
- Use Microsoft Office Suite, ClickUp, Ziflow, and other department tools to manage assignments, reviews, approvals, and deadlines.
- Support broader Marketing Department projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, public relations, advertising, or a related field required.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in copywriting, marketing communications, brand writing, advertising, corporate communications, or a related field.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating creative, strategic writing across multiple formats, channels, and audiences.
- Demonstrated experience developing brand messaging, advertising or campaign copy, product marketing content, or other persuasive communications.
- Excellent writing, editing, storytelling, and concept-development skills.
- Ability to translate technical, industrial, energy, engineering, or B2B information into clear and engaging content.
- Experience writing executive communications, speeches, presentations, or internal messages preferred.
- Strong command of AP style required; familiarity with SPE style preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with executives, technical experts, designers, marketers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong project management, organization, and deadline-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted writing tools and responsible content development practices.
- Willingness to learn and use ClickUp, Ziflow, and NOV-specific systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain a high standard of work under tight deadlines.
