Job Description

Please note that this is a 12 Month Contract position and is On-Site. No Corp to Corp or H-1B.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Proven hands-on experience with industrial laser systems, including solid-state, fiber, CO2, or ultrafast lasers (picosecond or femtosecond) used for material processing.

  • Strong understanding of how different materials, including metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites, interact with various laser wavelengths and pulse durations. Knowledge of glass fiber processing is a primary requirement.

  • Experience developing, testing, and scaling up laser processing applications.

  • Ability to use computer-aided design and manufacturing tools, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or specialized laser software, to design parts and manage layouts.

  • Familiarity with CNC machinery, G-code/M-code, or programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++ for automated laser control and parameter optimization.

  • Adherence to ANSI standards and familiarity with laser safety protocols.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration, SOP development, and communication with equipment vendors.

  • Ability to solve complex, ambiguous technical challenges using innovative and data-driven approaches.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Proficiency with analytical and testing equipment, such as scanning electron microscopes (SEM), spectrometers, interferometers, confocal microscopes, or precision measuring tools.

  • Experience creating Design of Experiments (DoE) plans and applying Six Sigma tools to optimize fiber processing.

  • Ability or willingness to become a Laser Safety Officer (LSO) or Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Equipment & Process Development

  • Apply hands-on experience with industrial laser systems, including solid-state, fiber, CO2, and ultrafast lasers, to develop material processing applications.

  • Evaluate how different materials interact with laser wavelengths and pulse durations, with a primary focus on glass fiber processing.

  • Develop, test, and scale up laser processing applications.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and equipment vendors to resolve technical challenges, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and communicate technical findings.

Process Optimization

  • Use analytical and testing equipment to inspect part quality and evaluate processing results.

  • Diagnose hardware and software malfunctions, make real-time parameter adjustments, and support preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Drive process development and optimization by creating DoE plans and applying Six Sigma tools to improve fiber processing.

  • Use CAD/CAM tools, CNC machinery, and programming languages as appropriate to support automated laser control, part design, layout management, and parameter optimization.

  • Follow applicable ANSI standards and laser safety protocols.
